What a horrible thing to do to someone in GREAT health, but to do it to someone with a life-threatening illness is despicable.

I booked three villas at SSR for Dec '05 last week, and I went through CRO to do it. I'll pay the price they charge, because my DH would never let me live it down if I got taken by somebody on the internet.

I hope something can be done to help you.

I am so sorry this happened to you.

If you decide not to rent points again, I would like to suggest staying at the Disney's Port Orlean Resort, French Quarter. The French Quarter is a smaller moderate resort and extremely friendly and convenient. We have stayed at several resorts and we had the best time at this one--it didn't have to be the most expensive or a home away from home. To save food costs we simply brought a cooler and were able to replenish the ice twice daily. You can get a styrafoam disposable one on your way to the resort and toss it on your way back or just leave it in the room. There's a lovely food court at the resort also. With kids it is also nice that the parking is close so you are not wasting all that extra energy just getting back and forth all the time.

So sorry to hear about your renting points nightmare. I say you should post the renter's name in the biggest font available, boldface it and then add some underlining. That renter should be ashamed. Walt would be turning in his grave.

this is horrible... i am sorry... a quick reverse search by the posters name gives a couple of clues as to where the rental points originated... and it appears it was a newbie disboard guest

Sorry to heard about you bad experience...You should check out the Mousesavers.com site and read the section on Annual Pass discount...you can get a deep discount at a Deluxe resort for most times in the year (check the historical information). I think I would be a little hesitant to rent points again...or you could always purchase a small contract in the resale market. Good luck next time.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hope it works out for you if you decide to pursue this.

You mentioned that you had rented points successfully before. Do you still have the contact information for the first DVC owner? My suggestion, if you decide to rent points again, is to contact this person to see if they have any points to rent.

Obviously since you know from experience that this person was trustworthy, you should stick with what you know. Peace of mind is worth some money too. Of course, it would be nice to save some money too.

While I am very sad about what happened to you I would love to know who you rented from. Why can't the DIS ban people who are conning others by way of the DIS!

We all know there is much bad blood on these boards, debates start arguments etc... Maybe we need to be policing who is online with us a little closer.

I am sorry for your loss of $$ and I am sure your feeling of helplessness. There are some great people on the DIS actually they outnumber the bad many times over.

Any veterans have an opinion about posting the names of swindlers? Doc?

OMG I am seething about this jerk! What state is he from? Maybe y ou can have someone act as a rep on your behalf in court? If he is from NY I volunteer!

I would suggest as others did in that you should contact the IRS and report him for tax fraud as any rental income "should be" reported- hopefully you have a receipt of sorts to prove this. I would also contact your local Post Master if you/he did in fact use US Mail to perform this transaction because if so, he has committed Mail Fraud which is a serious federal offense. If you haven't already, I would call your home town police, his home town police and the Orlando, Fl police (as the property rental in question is in their jurisdiction) and see if they can do anything to assist you. Wouldn't it be nice if the Orlando or Florida State police could pick him up at the airport when he arrives for his next trip?

I would post his information here or an alternative location if it does in fact violate the DIS Board Policy and put the URL in a message here linking to the information to identify this person to prevent it from happening to another trusting person trying to create some "magic" for their family.

I asked Doc about a renters hall of fame about a year ago, and he thought it was a good idea and would talk to the other mod's,but it never got any further.
It would be only positive experiences, nothing negative. If you rented to someone and it was a good rental post his/her name. If you rented from someone, some thing. It would be simple to get lists of good people together. Maybe it's time to do this. I don't know if we could do it on the Yahoo/DVC/ rent trade board or not.

What a sad story. If you do have all of his information and if you had to use the mail to send him a check, etc, PLEASE do file a mail fraud report on him. That is the only way to "get him" without spending a lot of money on court costs.

Yes I too would love to see this name posted, however, I don't think it really matters. I think that the person could extremely easily come up with a "new" name from a different computer or whatever and do the very same thing. It's just sad that it had to happen - very sad. I've rented before and while yet very very cautious and somewhat afraid that the most terrible could happen (the member call and cancel the reservation ...) but I really truly had "trust" that it wouldn't happen, and for us it didn't -- but for you it did and that's just plain mean, terrible and sad !

I honestly don't see what the gain would be to take your money - yet cancel your reservation! I also don't know how DVC couldn't intervene either ! But I guess that's something members only could take up with DVC, not renters.

Again, very very sorry for your experience.

Even if you weren't sick, this is a sad act. The fact that you are sick makes is a deplorable act.

I think the names of good and bad should be posted on the renters forum. Similar to Ebay. This can help mitigate potential problems. People like to have good ratings. Then he/she can change their name all they want, the won't have good ratings. Therefore, I would like to see his name. He is using this board to commit illegalities.

I don't think you can go after him for tax fraud. You don't have proof that he/she committed such. That is difficult to know. I would go after him/her for mail fraud. That, I believe, is a federal offense.

And you keep a WDW smile on your face.

Wow, I can't even believe it This goes against the DVC & Disboards spirit.... What about reporting this guy to DVC?? It probably won't do any good, but maybe it would?? I have no idea who it is Dean alluded to, but if they are still registered on the DIS, they should be banned...

I've rented out our extra points before & never in my wildest imagination would I ever do this to anyone

A couple of things here folks.

The DVC Board adheres to the DIS Posting Guidelines which does not allow items for sale. Discussion of points for rent should be taken to the Rent/Trade Board, and if there is a personal offer to one individual, please keep it in PM or email.

Also, there will not be any public naming of individuals on our Boards. This is a very unfortunate situation, however, it is not appropriate to expect the DIS to allow public posting of any individual's name.

Please pursue other avenues for retribution and resolution of such matters.
