Sad, sad, sad - selling our points...

So, what is the opposite of 'welcome home'? Very sad that we will be selling our DVC points. An opportunity has come up and it just makes better financial sense to do this. Trying to be the 'grown-up' about this, but it is difficult, especially since we don't technically have to sell them - if we did, I think that this would be easier. I plan to lurk on the boards once my period of mourning is over but right now it is too painful...
You'll probably find me in a few months trying to rent points or buy resale...ciao for now.
And to anyone considering a purchase, I would definitely do it over again (in fact I hope to...)

Bon Voyage?

I'm confused - if you are pretty sure you might buy or at least rent points again in the future & you don't have to sell them, why are you selling?

Bon voyage...that's good :) thanks. We're selling because selling this 'luxury' rather than borrowing from other investments, etc. makes better financial sense (unfortunately). When I say that we don't have to sell, I mean we're not bankrupt or getting divorce or need cash to fight off people trying to break our legs, rather, we're taking advantage of an opportunity that makes more financial sense than our points right now. In the next moment, or year, etc. things could change. I mention renting points because I don't plan on NOT going to disney - I'm being rational, here...I'm not insane!

:)

It makes good sense to me. Renting points is far better than buying them. Just look for the deals and you'll be fine! :goodvibes

Did you consider renting your points to cover the cash flow instead of selling?

Anyway, best of luck with whatever opportunity you are pursuing :)

You're being very brave and grown-up about this ::yes:: I HAD to have my house rewired this fall--an emergency--and the cost shocked me, but I just couldn't bring myself to sell any points. I tried to talk myself into it, but nearly cried just thinking about it!

Thanks for the condolences...Maybe it would help if DH were as upset - I'm not even planning on telling the kids (though if we don't rent points they'll be asking where the kitchen and jacuzzi are...)
JimC, I did consider the renting possibility but it wasn't enough... Believe me, I've crunched the numbers every way... Thanks anyways :)

Sending your family best wishes! It sounds like you have thought this out well, and I hope that everything works out....

One thing you may want to consider since it seems you still plan on some Disney, and possibly DVC, trips. That is to add on 25 points and keep them when you sell the rest. You could then transfer points in, bank & borrow, and have all the other perks of ownership.

You poor thing!! :sad1: I am so sorry, but we will keep looking for your return. Best wishes!

Hang in there! I will be thinking magical thoughts for you until you return to the magic!

Althought this sale is for a particular reason, I "STRONGLY" disagree with the above phrase "Renting points is far better..." as I believe that I am "Far better owing my points" especially when I get to control the entire process.

Dean is giving you the BEST advice (considering he has a post count of over 10,000 he is a DVC expert)....the cost of 25 points is around $2,200 and then you can rent and x-fer points into your account as you need them. Your annual dues would only be about $100. Then you are still a DVC family member. Please consider this wonderful option.

Thanks Everyone. And Dean, you turned on a lightbulb over my head - I hadn't considered the small add-on possibility - that just might work... :scratchin

.I'm going to look into that! Thanks!

Dean always has the best advise.

Sorry to hear of your news. We are in the same boat and have sold 75% of our points recently. Same as you, not because we had to, but because it was the right financial thing to do, at this time. Anyways, we had done so many add-ons that keeping one at each resort still gives us everything, only less. Less is still better than nothing. And the banking and borrowing will make it work real well. Best wishes to you. I agree with the rest, renting is only going to be a painful reminder.
