sad, sad news

We went for our first time this summer DD 15 and DS 12. They absolutely had a blast. Of course they did ToT 5x, RR 5x, Splashmount.....but they even got into the character meals, and autographs. Sorry they didn't feel the same......

We started our boys early, My husband and I always make a big deal about going, I can't help myself, I am a planner.
They LOVE Disney, they enjoy Universal because of the thrill rides but they will both tell you "it's not as good as Disney". They are only 9 & 11 and can appreciate the attention to detail, gee the buildings and rides are clean, no graffitti, peeling paint and trash laying around. Another thing mising from Disney?, no (or very few,) rowdy unattended teenagers, pushing shoving, cussing etc. (although sometimes I've seen parents act that way, but thats a whole other thread....LOL) Disney is not just a place, it's a frame of mind. You either get, or you don't.

Totally understand the 15 year old since there are several families whose kids don't "get" Disney if they are exposed for the first time at that age.

...the 9 year old however...probably took her cue from the 15 year old...that really makes me sad.

...most 9 year olds, if not unduly influenced by an older influential teen, really enjoy the Disney experience.

...sigh...sorry, don't like that teen (without ever even having met her) and feel sorry for the 9-year old since she will probably always be playing "catch up" with older role models if she let an older child influence/dictate her behavior at such a stimulating place.

...I really get irritated inside with teens that spoil things for the younger ones. Don't misunderstand me, I don't dislike those teens, I just feel helpless and mystified about the negative energy they generate...especially when it rains on a younger (and easily influenced) child's parade.

Let them hate it. It only means more for us that love it there. :wizard:

I have to admit when I was 14 and my sister was 10 my aunt and uncle took us to Magic Kingdom and we hated it, it was so childish but when we went to Epcot the next day we loved it! Now in my mid 30's my DH and I go to DW 8 or more times a year and we never get tired or bored of it!! I guess when you are very young you are enthralled by it all and when you are older you appreciate the parks more and want to feel young again lol!

This happened to us (me, DH, DS) about 3 years ago. We boarded our plane were chatting with the family in front of us about taking our children out of school to go to WDW. Our DS was in first grade (we started going when he was 2 1/2); their three kids looked to be between the 9-15 year. Of course, we were going on about how fantastic Disney was. They had never been before. After our 7 day trip, we were on the same flight back. I asked if they didn't just love WDW, and the mom said no, that they were ready to come home after 2 days! :scared1: She said they only wanted to be at the pool or in the room!!! Some people just don't get it, I guess, and we just do not understand those people. :confused3 My DS vows that he will always love Disney. My nine year old nephew visited Universal, and told his mom that he liked the thrill rides, but the "magic just was not there!" Yes, our children are well trained in the art of loving Disney!! ::yes::

I can't believe any person at any age would not just love WDW! I have been going since I was 10 and can't wait to go each year! I get teary-eyed at the commercials!! My daughters are both the same way....ages 13 and 18. They have ALWAYS been excited to go and can't wait until our next trip....which is this summer! Those kids must have something wrong with them!!

I agree! You can tell the people who really love it and the people who are just there because they think they should take their family there. Those of us who love Disney are the ones you see smiling and looking around wide-eyed, while the ones who hate it are the people you hear arguing and screaming at each other! lol

Hopefully those kids will come around when they get older, but if not, two less people in the crowds. ::yes::

My 17 yo does like some of WDW, and all of Universal/IOA better. And that's fine. He needs to find other teens and there are many more of them over at Universal. I like thrill rides, love Hulk, and Dueling Dragons, and am hoping Expedition Everest makes AK more fun for DS. And DS17 did love the car show at MGM. Not sure yet if I'll spring for a Universal/IOA admission for our Feb Vacation, but I might!
