Sad News

Such sad news. My prayers are with their family.

I too just saw the news on FB, and came over here to find out what happened. My heart goes out to all their family and friends. RIP Robert and Linda.

This is so terribly sad. Robert and Linda were always kind, generous and totally supportive towards me. As a walker I was both inspired and motivated by their accomplishments. Rest in peace, Robert and Linda, you will be sorely missed.

Oh no! The Disney running community has lost one of its most ardent champions. My thoughts are with their family and loved ones.

This is very sad news. Like others have said I saw this posted on Facebook and it brought me back to the WISH board after a long time away. Such a tragedy especially during this holiday season and so close to Disney Marathon weekend which we all know was near and dear to their hearts irregardless of any controversy that happened (which I was not personally a part of) it is a terrible loss. I am thinking of their family and friends.

Devastating news... I'm relatively new to the WISH boards and had briefly popped into their site as well... As a walker, I was so inspired by Robert & Linda. May they rest in peace...

On Feb 10, 2007 I was on my morning race walk and for about 20 feet a little field mouse kept pace beside me as I walked along a country road. I thought that was cute since it had never happened before. That afternoon Robert Mathis contacted me and asked me if I would be the walking advisor and a moderator on his new website, DisneyRunning. I'm not the most religious person but when God whacks me with a sign like that then I'm going to listen. I'm pretty sure that mouse was that sign that the World and concept of Disney were part of my destiny.

Robert, UltraMickeyMouse, Mathis and his lady Linda, were killed last friday night while walking across the street at a cross walk. Everything has meaning and I'm trying to find the meaning in this senseless accident.

A lot of people were introduced to running and walking the races at Disney by Robert. Along with him I was able to help people train and occassionally I had the honor of actually helping someone do the half or full marathon.

Robert and Linda, rest in peace and thank you for being there during the hard times I went through and I'm honored that I was able to help you through your own difficult times.

This is terrible. He has directed more races than many of us will run. Robert was in the pre-race, volunteer, trenches many times at Disney. He was just in front of me in the corrals for last years half. Even with all the other runners in the corral it's going to still feel a bit empty.

Has anyone contacted runDisney/wwos. Some comments should be made at the start.

His brother has commented at the bottom of this news page:

What a terrible loss. Sending thoughts and prayers to their family and friends.

So sad, and the type of event that puts many smaller and more petty things in persepctive. Will run Sunday with Robert and Linda in mnd.

So very tragic & sad! Robert & Linda will be in my thoughts every time I step onto a Disney coure! Rest in Peace Robert & Linda!

Saw this on Facebook. I had a few good years with Robert and Linda. We had a good time back then. Regardless of what happened with some people, he did a lot of good and helped a lot of people. This is so sad.

Such sad news, and like others it has brought me back to where I began. Here on the DIS and the WISH team.

I will continue to pray for their families.

A well-connected Facebook friend-of-a-friend is working on this now. I ran the 2011 Mercedes Marathon and if I remember correctly, we had a moment of silence for a participant who had been struck and killed on a training run a few weeks prior. Something similar would be a nice to memorialize Robert and Linda.

That's terrible. Much love to their families who must be going through an awful time now.

I am still this morning feeling uneasy in my stomach.

I first met Robert and Linda during the Minnie Marathon in May 2007. It was my first distance race as a adult and was starting to fade near the finish line Robert yelled out to me only a 8th of a mile to go, I looked at him like he had 6 heads...I laughed and said I am Canadian I have no idea how long that is. We all had a good laugh and every time we got together after that we still laughed about it. I have spend alot of time at Big River and ESPN with Robert and Linda over the years and always had a great time. The issues that have come up over the last few years just don't really seem that important as they once did. I am only speaking for myself as I was not involved in any of what happened. I hope they are together forever in heaven and may they rest in peace.

Till we meet again

Kim
