Sad News: The Passing of Thurl Ravenscroft

The Orange County (CA) Register, yesterday, reported the death of well-known voice-over artist Thurl Ravenscroft on May 23rd at the age of 91 in Fullerton, California.

The deep, rich, bass-voiced, Ravenscroft was perhaps best known as the voice of Tony the Tiger, but also was renowned for his many voices at Disneyland, WDW's Magic Kingdom (HM & POTC) and many, many cartoon characters.

RIP Mr. Ravenscroft. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts and talents with us!

What I haven't seen mentioned in any of the articles is that Thurl Ravenscroft sang "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" in the animated "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," although his name was accidentally left out of the credits. That's what I will always remember best about the man.

Did he sing "Grim Grinning Ghosts" and/or "Yo Ho Yo Ho"? The voice sounds like it could be the same. Or were his efforts in Haunted Mansion/POTC just narration/voices along the ride?

NPR did a story on him last night. They not only played some of "Mr. Grinch", but played at least a full minute of the POTC song.

I can't believe I had never heard of Mr. Ravenscroft before he passed away (I wonder if the Hogwart's House of Ravenclaw had anything to do with his name). Searching for a good image of his bust from HM, I came across this interesting link: http://www.snopes.com/disney/parks/busts.htm.

I had no idea he was the actual singer of the Grinch song, I have an mp3 of it and it says Boris Karloff.
