Sad news RE JAWS

Aww, I know it's a bit cheesy but I love it. Wonder what we will get, hope it's done for Aug.

I just got this email too, gutted I'll never ride it again, it's a classic!

This is what the email said;

On January 2, 2012, one of Universal Studios' most iconic rides is heading out to sea for the last time. In order to make room for an exciting new attraction, Captain Jake's Amity Boat Tours is closing and we invite you to come celebrate with one final ride of JAWS®.

Come relive your favorite memories and get ready to scream as the Great White Shark takes its last bite.

I understand the need for parks to stay fresh but will be disappointed that we cannot ride Jaws next summer :sad2:

Guessing it's Transformers. Really bad decision though, Jaws is a CLASSIC, Universal are getting a reputation for tearing out classics to make way for new attractions now, ther's a big plot of land behind Simpsons why not just use that and add to the parks attraction count!

Also, none of the new attractions since IOA opened have actually been Universal intellectual property! It's been a pattern of tearing out the actual Universal themed attractions and replacing them with attractions based on movie franchises owned by other studio's. Universal is really watering down it's own brand in my opinion.

Oh no! I hate this ride but love it at the same time :rotfl:

Such a shame it won't be there for our trip - pretty late notice though, wonder what's going in its place?

Not hugely disappointed by this news, yeah it's a classic but not really that great (compared to classics such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion).

The thing is, Universal Studios needs some big new rides as the park is no way near as busy as it used to be. Maybe that's because IoA is taking all the crowds now thanks to Harry Potter.

I personally would have chosen to take down Disaster before Jaws but both are very out of date now.

Just got email about this from Universal.
Glad we rode it for the last time in Oct. We don't ride it every visit as Karen doesn't enjoy it(or any ride you might get wet on:rotfl:) but thankfully we did go on it.
Hope its something good, last update was Simpsons from Back to the Future, that one was a flop for me, loved BTTF, don't know anything about Simpsons, rode it once that was enough for me not been on it since.

But here's the shocking thing - BTTF movie is nearly 30 years old!!! :scared1:

It was released the year I was born and I love the whole franchise. But I get why people now wouldn't want to ride it, sadly.

Glad we had a last ride on it. DD will be pleased she hated it (she is 5)

Agree the premise was getting a bit stretched - jaws was released year I was born.

Whats scarey is talking about BTTF and then you replying to my post before I posted it, look at the times posted.:scared1:

BTTF was a legendary ride, gutted that went, doesn't matter how old it is, my kids love watching BTTF now, it's timeless (no pun intended!)

Noooooooo! I love Jaws. I know its old, but for me it's one of the most enjoyable rides in Universal. I hope whatever they replace it with is just as good.

I don't even like the movies, but I don't think you have to. A man eating shark terrorizing a boat load of people is always fun.

oh no...gutted Jaws is being replaced. Loved that ride. Surely there is enough sapce else where in the park to put whatever they have planned in. I still miss the old King Kong ride:confused3 So glad I rode Jaws in Feb but gutted that I didn't realise it was the last time or I would have really taken it in one more time.

noooo :( i know its old but its a classic what ever they replace it with will only need to be re done in a few years as films these days are just not made to be timeless.
I really miss the Back to the future ride and king kong too :(

I'm hoping it could be making way for King Kong 360, but i do doubt it

The rumor mill is in overdrive about it being Potter related and the whole area of Jaws etc will be rethemed to the London based HP world. Rumors also circulating about using the Kong 360 technology to have a Hogwarts Express running through the backstage areas to IOA.

Personally if this indeed the case, I will be a very happy bunny. Butterbeer in both parks? Yes please! :goodvibes
