I have just received word that as of today we have lost 3,000 American troops. Though each is as valuable as the other, how very sad.

Maybe we should have a Federal Day of Mourning. Oh wait, that would be trivial and useless. Sorry for that. I just couldn't stop myself. Getting all my snark out before 2007 starts. :rotfl2:

I heard the other day that we had reached or are approaching the amount of people killed on 9/11.....It's horrendous.

My heart definitely goes to the families to these brave people. God bless them all.

Thanks for defining yourself..Is something funny? :sad2:

I said I was being snarky...and you're most welcome. This was more of shot at you than any person who has sacrificed themselves for your right...as well as mine, to say what we feel.

I probably missed something, but why the need to take a shot at the OP?

It stems from another thread. But I'm outta here on this subject. Its been discussed ad nauseum. I said it right out that I was being snarky...wasn't try to hide it, just being honest. Oh well. Asta la vista!!!!!

The 3000 death was a solider from Houston. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4437236.html
A Spring soldier whose death was announced by the military Sunday raised the tally compiled by the Associated Press of U.S. military deaths in Operation Iraqi Freedom to at least 3,000.

At the time of his death Thursday, Spc. Dustin Donica, 22, was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

"Dustin had a tremendous sense of duty, both to his family and his country," according to a statement released Sunday by his family. "He will be missed

So very sad. :sad1:

My heart and prayers go out to each and their dear families suffering their terrible loss. I thank each one for their ultimate sacrifice and all those protecting our country and freedom.

Our son was home for the holidays and we learned just a little of what his mission was in Ramadi '05 :worried: and that sadly his unit lost 70 men :sad1: . We praise God and are so blessed he came home safe and sound and it breaks our hearts when we shudder to think how many will not return.

Godspeed these brave souls, all our brave military and may one day we be blessed with world peace. ^i^

Today's print edition of the NY Times had photos of the most recent 1000 soldiers killed in Iraq. It was heartbreaking to see. The pictures were a real cross section of the country-I saw white faces, black faces, hispanic faces, oriental faces, boy faces and girl faces.

My father made an observation when I was visiting over the holidays. He's 78so he remembers brothers and neighbors going off to WWII and not being heard from for months or even years. He commented on how things are different today with reporting coming straight from the front lines, daily casualty reports, weblogs and emails. He said that the funny thing to him was that the lack of connectivity during WWII seemed to foster a stronger emotional connection back home than our instant connectivity does today. According to him, everyone was so aware of the war back then-talking about the soldiers all the time, making sacrifices for the war effort and listening to whatever little news was available. Today, it seems like everyone is just going about their normal lives, unless they have someone close over there.

Now-before this goes all political-I can remember Vietnam being pretty "far away" too and removed from my childhood other than Walter Cronkite's evening casualty count. I believe that there were a couple of Democratic presidents involved during that war (Kennedy, Johnson),so I don't think the disconnection is specific to one party. Judging by the photos I saw today, it's not that only certain groups are represented. (Sorry, Rep. Rangel)
I think it's our own nature to avoid the painful and the politicians and media are just going along with what gets them votes and what gets them ratings.

If those that are losing their lives in Iraq and Afganistan are going to be noticed and remembered-WE are going to have to do it. We have to demand that their sacrifice is honored. We have a new House and new Senate taking over soon, let's see what they are ready to do to help get our kids out of Iraq. Let's see what they are ready to do to make sure that the soldiers in Afganistan get what they need to finish the job and make those that orchestrated 9-11 pay for what they did. Let's see if they can help make 2007 the year that we finish the job for real.
