Sad Day in MA.

Woke up at 3am to hear this...

Sad day indeed.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." - Senator Edward Kennedy

So sad...being from Mass myself, I remember him all over the tv when I was a kid. He was such a HUGE part of the civil rights movement. Huge loss for us. :sad1:

A sad day for Americans everywhere.

Truly a great statesman. He will be missed. Missed greatly.

It is a very sad day, we all knew it was coming... especially when it was announced that President Obama would not be visiting him during his vacation to Martha's Vineyard this week, but that makes it no easier.

I know that I had a strong streak of denial running through me that he could never die... he was such a champion for so many, he did so much good and I can only hope that good will continue to come from his memory.

Whoever wins that seat has some mighty shoes to fill!

RIP Teddy, you will be missed. :sad1:

Just hope someone in DC remembers the "have nots" in this world.
Teddy never forgot not all American's get the same treatment.

There is already some talk of Jim McGovern... He would be good... Ted asked that his seat not be left vacant for long...

They are announcing now he will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery.

I was headed to PT this morning and turned on NPR in the car. They were discussing many of the great things Senator Kennedy had done for this country. I knew we'd lost him then.

I'm not ashamed to admit that tears formed and I struggled mightily to see to drive. I don't shed tears easily and not for people I didn't know personally...however Ted Kennedy was a great man and our country has suffered a great loss in his death.

There is no champion, no Lion to follow in his footsteps.

Thank you Senator. Rest now. Your lifelong work here is done...

Good. Earlier I had heard that there were no final arrangements yet. He should be in Arlington, totally agree.

Just got a call from Shrek, "Lower the flag". It has been done at our house, and Shrek says all of Disney has done the same....

DEATH OF SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Senator Edward M. Kennedy was not only one of the greatest senators of our time, but one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy. Over the past half-century, nearly every major piece of legislation that has advanced the civil rights, health, and economic well-being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts. With his passing, an important chapter in our American story has come to an end.

As a mark of respect for the memory of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on August 30, 2009. I also direct that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment. I further direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same periods at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-sixth day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fourth.

BARACK OBAMA

A sign of respect. Befitting a great American.

I don't consider myself that political -
But Mr Kennedy earned all the respect he's getting and more.

Watching the live coverage of them leaving Hyannis Port for Boston.

This is really sad.

I guess it's cuz I'm old enough to remember everything this family has sacrificed for our country. One son lost at war, two sons assassinated while serving our country.

Not sure if it's like picking a scab off of an old wound, or finally saying goodbye to Camelot.

Thank you to the Kennedy brothers for everything you gave for our country!.........:sad1:

I know. :sad2:
It does seem like the end.
Where is that next champion of the little guy?

There was a show about the Kennedys on PBS last night. I never really knew much about them. History and Government were never strong subjects for me. I learned a lot! And now I am even more aware of what incredible contributions their family has made to this nation. I wonder what Jack and Bobby could have accomplished had they lived? Sad. :sad2:

In some ways it seems like we haven't made much progress in the past 40 years. In other ways I guess we have.
