Hello Everyone!!

It's been awhile since I've been on the boards. Lots of stuff has been going on. Basically work, work work. I barely saw home in the month of December. I think I had about 3 days off the entire month and one of those days was Christmas Day. Boxing Day was an insane day at TDS.

Anyways, just thought I would let everyone know that as of next Saturday, the 22nd, I will no longer be a TDS cast member. I have submitted my resignation for various reasons and Saturday will probably be a sad day. I've been there for over 7 years and it's going to be strange going in as a guest, rather than as a CM.

Oh well.... things change, life goes on, other things to look forward to. Of course, I will only be a guest for a few months before I leave for WDW for a year.

Thanks to everyone that has come into the store.... asking for 'EvilQueen'. Still makes me laugh. It's even more funny that people in the store knew who you were talking about. Now, you will all just have to come down to WDW. Like any of you really needed an excuse......

Ah, that's too bad. Remember when one door closes another will open!

Just keep looking forward to WDW. You'll have to post a picture so we know who do look for! :smooth:

What are you going to be doing at WDW for the year? I know you'll miss TDS, but wow - to be at Disney for a year!!!

Where in Canada do you live? I just came from the local TDS by me and they just got word the store is closing. (Oakland Mall in Troy Michigan off of I75 and 14 mile road.) Many people from Windsor go there since it is just a hop on the highway from the tunnel. The other 2 TDW by me are remaning open, but that was one the closest.

Sorry to hear about your store. Good luck with other things. I was laid off from the hospital that I worked at for 5 years last year. I happened to be pregnant at the time so I am SAHM now, but it has been a adjustment.

I'll be working at Epcot in the Canadian pavilion for a year. I'll be in food & beverage. So, hopefully, I'll get into work in Le Cellier quickly.

My store is in Toronto and it's not closing, I'm just leaving. My store is very much open and is not one of the 6 stores in North America closing. There's a rumour that my store will be renovated sometime this year.

Oh EvilQueen,
Try not to think of what and where you are leaving behind but what and where you are going :earseek: You will be there at WDW , daily, weekly, monthly....if only I was younger, I would love to do that also.
I hope you are planning to post and let us know how you are getting on and where you'll be. Take Care and enjoy!

That is truly sad. It's hard to leave but you are going to a better place!

Are you going to be there on Saturday?

Well I'll just have to ask for "EvilQueen" at Epcot from now on!LOL

Yep, Scratch, I'm there on Saturday. It's a short shift... 12-4.

I'm just waiting for more information about WDW to come in the mail. I'm sure getting this package will really make it real. I will definately keep everyone up to date. I'm hoping to get a laptop before I leave. Email will be so much cheaper to keep in touch with all my friends at home.

Sandra :)

How did you get the opportunity to work at WDW? Is there an age restriction? I'm just thinking that once my youngest graduates, it would be a dream of mine to work there for a year. I'll be an old lady of 42 by then, so do they only accept young people? Where did you apply?

Hi BLBC,

The Internation Program (go to www.wdwip.com if you want more information) is geared towards the younger crowd. It is specifically for individuals from countries that are represented on the world showcase at Epcot (Canada, UK, France, Mexico, China, etc.). About 100 individuals are chosen from each country, for approximately 1 year, to represent their countries on the world showcase.

The ages ranged from 18 to 32 (1999-2000) when I was there...and I expect it hasn't changed much as it has always been so. You live in a complex with all of the people from the other countries and you are intentionally roomed with reps from other countries (my roommates were from England, Norway and China). The living experience is quite "dorm" like - parties EVERY single night, frat like traditions, etc. I'm guessing anyone in a head space of over 30 would not enjoy all of the antics going on...in fact, I remember my Chinese roommate (31) was quite upset with me by the end of my contract for the amount of partying that went on at our place (you're only 20 once, right?).

So...my suggestion would be to try the cruise lines as the ages are much more diverse...and the lifestyle is not geared towards partying 'til you can't remember your name. You get to experience Disney and inbetween the contracts on the ship (4 -5 months I think, and then 1 month off paid at the end of your contract) you would get to stay in Disney World and vacation like a queen with all of the discounts, free park admissions, etc.

The only other way I know that you could work there (and some of my friends tried to stay but couldn't) would be if you had your citizenship. One friend from the program has been on the cruise ships for 5 years attemping to gain immigrant status...he is able to work on the ships, but is not able to work in the World until such time.

Good luck and hope everything works out!!

Oh, it's not like I would be able to do anything for another 8 years or so, I'm just dreaming! I wonder what the chances are that both my husband and I could get a job on a cruise ship at once? Wouldn't be much fun without him, so I guess it's just as well that I can't do it.

Hi I am looking to get on as Seasonal help but don't know what all it involves. I go to Florida for months at a time and I would love to get on somehow. Any suggestions and is being in your early 50's against you or for you. I used to be until they closed our Disney store a castmember and I received the SPIRIT award so should I tell me during the interiview? I heard we have one year to transfer from the date the stores were sold. Any truth to that? Please e-mail me back asap!!

Thanks DisneyPhD for posting about the Oakland Mall store, seeing as how we live in Windsor, ON, that is where we shop. Also, EvilQueen mentioned about 6 other North American Disney Stores closing, would you be able to tell us which ones are closing, or provide a link? Thanks

Have fun working in Disney World - that sounds like great fun! Tiger

Hope your last shift is a memorable one!

Wanted to show up to say "Hello" but due to the weather outside, I guess will have to wait until you start working at WDW!

Sandra, have a good last day. Let us know how it went!

Scratch, we have no snow here yet. I just checked out cp24.com and it shows you are getting hammered in the city!

edited to add: We do have snow, it's just not snowing here yet!

As Janet said, hope your last day at TDS is a memorable one, Sandra!

Best of luck in the CP down at WDW! I'll be sure to look for you (hopefully next fall). :)

Nice, nice... so glad it takes me forever to respond.

Well, I won't lie, my last day wasn't really all that memorable. It felt weird, yes, but nothing spectacular. My already short 4 hour shift got cut by an hour because of the snow. The store was empty. And, the few cast that were either working that day or passing through didn't seem to know that was my last day until they were told then.

It's been a couple of weeks since my last day and I seem to be doing fine. Really looking forward to starting the international program in a few months. Apparently, there was a good bye party of sorts planned for myself and one of my managers (who's going to another store). However, it was planned for Feb 19th and that's the week-end that I'm heading out to winterlude in Ottawa. Ah well, maybe it's better this way.

I really just wish this countdown clock below would hurry up and get to zero!!!!

Sandra :)

I'm in Ottawa and since EvilQueen mentioned coming here for Winterlude, I thought I'd let everyone know that one of the six TDS closing in North America was apparently the one at the Rideau Centre, downtown Ottawa. It closed a couple weeks ago :-(

We still have one TDS in town - out at Bayshore Mall in the west end, but it's just not the same as having one in the heart of our tourist area. When I spoke to the castmembers during the 50% off clear-out sale (well, I had to pick up a few things, didn't I?) they mentioned there is the possibility that other stores will be opening in some of the other suburban malls in the next couple years.

Hopefully there will be one in the mall near me!
