DH and I were taking our walk on the boardwalk. We saw the coast guard boats and then a whole crowd of rescue workers, including divers. Not a good sign. A seven year old boy had fallen off of the jetty and was missing. We saw them find the boy but it was too late.
What is disturbing is that a seven year old boy was on the jetty alone, that they took considerable time calling for help, and he was on a trip with a youth group but I didn't see his parents around. Not sure but it appeared they weren't there. I didn't see any adult other then rescue workers get on the ambulance, again not sure. It was also after the lifeguards were gone for the day.
But kids are quick and run and go places they aren't supposed to be. So please pray for the boy's family the group he was with and all the rescure workers who are going to be very shaken by this. I have a son who is a lifeguard who often works this block. He's pretty shaken up even though he wasn't there.

That's too bad, it always scares me when we are down at the shore and I see kids and adults! so far out on those jetties and in some really rough seas.
People just underestimate the forces of nature. Poor kid a 7 yr old would not have the depth of knowledge to accurately judge how dangerous that was.

Definitely will, Tiggeroo.

Being from LBI, I remember the jetties and the force of the water on them. And at 7, that ocean seems bigger and rougher than even to an adult. How tragic.

Very Sad. I feel for the boys family.

Awww. That is so sad. My son is 8 and I can't imagine. The family is my prayers.

:sad1: So sad I will be reading about this in my AC press in the morning. We were going to go to the Boardwalk this evening I am glad we didn't. His poor family will be in my prayers.

just read the press. The boy was from Phila. not NY. And it confirmed he didn't make it. Very sad. My son says that the area by the jetty's is a frequent rescue spot. If you get trapped by them it's hard to get off. So again, watch your kids and hug them. Bad things can happen so fast.
Once he got a report of two missing kids the parents couldn't find. When they found them they were swimming ten blocks away. Kids just decide to walk and keep going sometimes.

We also had a disturbing drowning around here yesterday. A teenager in a backyard pool. :sad2: Prayers going out for these families.
