Sabal Palms---anyone stay there recently?

I'm looking at staying at the Sabal Palms in Sept., and the reviews on tripadvisor aren't great. I thought that since it was a Marriott property that it would be a nicer resort.

Anyone stay there recently with a review? I'd like to know if the units are in bad need of refurbishment. Our favorite, Vac. Village @ Pkway is not available, so I'm looking into other places.

My parents have owned at Sabal Palms since it originally opened. They stay there once in awhile, but usually trade their weeks for points every year. I have really been disappointed in how Marriott has kept these units up. I stayed there a few years ago Labor Day week through an Interval International deal - $279 for a 2 bedroom for a week, great deal and it was ok - somewhat run down and some of the people staying there were questionable. My parents stayed there last August. When I visited them (I was staying at the Beach Club Villas) I was very disappointed in the grounds and the units themselves. Maybe I was even more so disappointed since I was comparing Sabal to the Beach Club and there is no comparison since Marriott has really let these go. The good things about staying at Sabal Palms is that you have full access to the Marriott World Centers main pools which are very nice, the units are very spacious and this Marriott is very close to Disney. So, if you can get a great deal then maybe give it a try. If it is not a great deal, I would maybe consider staying somewhere else.

I am getting a good deal on the property, probably similar to the one you had. I'm trying to make a decision between this property and Polynesian Isles Sunterra right now. I like the idea of the access to World Center activities and pools, but I'm worried about getting a run-down unit.
