SAB pool - just back

The pool at the Grand Californian in DL always had chairs because an attendant picked up towels and moved chairs continuously. :D

I will move hotel towels without the least problem. TOO BAD! And if you show up obviously just arriving at the pool and ask for the chair back, I won't give it up. Yep, that may sound rude, but why should I be overly nice to people who were rude to begin with.

We have stayed at the YC many times, and we have come to find a system at SAB. If only a hotel towel is left, and it is dry (ie, not used) and we don't see anyone for a little bit, the towel gets thrown into the towel hamper, and we have a chair. If someone comes to claim it back, we can say the CM's were walking around removing hotel towels on inactive chairs.

Also, some people come back from the parks and expect to find a chair at 2-3pm in the afternoon. Yeh right! That is peak time! Either get back to the pool before 1pm or go after 4pm. Also, the quiet pool is another alternative.

While it is nice to have a chair for all family members, most of the time it is not needed. Our DD's are mostly in the pool, so one chair is usually sufficient for them to share. Me, I can't just lay in the intense heat and sun, so I usually sit by the edge of the pool to keep cool. People have to use common sense and show common courtesy.

It seems pretty simple to me - just remove the towel or put it aside - voila a clear chair - and when we are done, we remove our towels to the appropriate place. We have even shared our chairs with others who did not have them or did not want to move other towels to get a chair.

There are too many selfish people in the world who only think of themselves first and want to save chairs all day.

Thanks

At AKL there was a CM that just kept walking around and clearing towels away from chairs that weren't being used anymore. She also cleared away garbage people left behind, it was really great. We were there for 2 weeks over Easter and always got a seat at the pool plus it was always really clean.

Our last 2 days at the dolphin we had to show our room key to get towels and were told that there would be a 20$ per towel fee if they were not returned. I wonder now if this was to eliminate this problem as i certainly would leave 80$ worth of towels around to save my chair.

Why in the world do you think that a family of four needs one chair? My husband and I like to sit by the pool and my kids
(11 and 10) like a place to rest and relax between swims. I take four chairs, one for each member of the family. We take the chairs and place obvious things on the chair like our own beach towels, beach bags and books we are reading. Having said that,
I would never think of going down in the morning to save pool cahirs for later in the day. I find that just plain rude.

I have never seen a toddler in a lounge chair.

In addition, I spent 4 hours watching this spectacle and not once in the entire afternoon did I see even a single family use their hoarde of chairs. Only the adults were using the chairs.

I have no problem with occupied chairs. We are discussing the uncecessary saving of chairs.

If this were a crowded bus I would make my DD at 11 give up their seat to an adult. Wouldn't you? However, I'd think twice about it if one adult had a purse on one seat and a backpack in another seat while everyone else stood around.

At church this Easter there was a woman in front of me that was saving half a row for those in her family that had apparently not gotten up in time. There were people lined up along the walls and in the back because it was so busy. She kept having her 2 teenagers "stretch out" so it appeared they were using all the space. She kept turning people away, but the funny part was her family never bothered to show up! Finally, after the service had started, one lone man worked up the nerve to just sit down (making her move over-he was shot a dirty look, too-on Easter Sunday!). There were still people lined up along the wall that were now to embarrassed to walk down the aisle.

The point of my story is: chairs should only belong to the people who bothered to wake up and go to them. People who get up early and go to the pool to save them for the rest of the group are wrong. When we decide to leave the pool to go to the room for a nap, or go for food someplace else, we always clean up our space and consider our spot lost. That's how it should be-

We recently bought DVC at BCV. We can't wait to use SAB!!! My kids are 12,10,8,and 5 and hardly ever sit in a chair at any pool! If we have a problem we will just pile our towels up in a dry place and dive in! I also would have no problem moving hotel towels if I really need a chair. DVC members can also pool hop so we plan on trying GF, WL and other pools when we can. We stayed at the Poly a few years ago but the pool has been redone since then and we would like to try it again too. This should not deter anyone from buying DVC if they want to. Any pool can have a chair shortage problem, as seen in this thread.

Hi there... how exciting for your family - I bet you can't wait for your vacation.

I have a question about BCV.. what is the pool like there? Any theming or just a plain pool? Also - can BC guests try the pool at BCV?

Thanx

I assume that BC guests can use the BCV pool if they wished to. There is another "quiet" pool at the BC too.

Here is a picture of the pool taken from the balcony of our 1 bedroom:

Yes, BC guests (and YC guests) can use the BCV pool. And it's not always very quiet... the quiet pool at teh BC is much quieter if that's what you're looking for.

We were at BC last May and didn't experience a chair problem at all. It certainly wasn't empty but we were able to find 2 chairs whenever we went to the pool (which was a lot). I wonder if the opening of BCV is the reason. YC/BC is our favorite resort and where we usually stay. We're leaving 5/24 but this time we're splitting our stay between WL and BC. Who knows, maybe WL will become our new favorite.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. Last year they were checking wristbands consistently. We love stormalong bay so I hope this doesn't become an on-going problem. Sounds like it is already.
