Hey neighbors!

We're headed down for our first stay a the BCV, which measn that it will be our first oppertunity to enjoy SAB. Could I get the SAB 101 tutorial?

What are the pool hours? What time do we want to be poolside to snag a table in the shade? A table in the shade near the pool, so I can sit and watch the kids?

Where's the best place to scope out a spot where the 5 yr old will be spending the most time? Sandy area? Base of the slide?

What are the secrets only you, my genious neighbors know?

The best place to watch the 5yo is by the sandy beach area. The water is shallow enough for them to just walk around and enjoy it. Bring sand toys and they will spend hours in that spot.

Your best bet is not by the sandy area. My three year old was too big for that area. He preferred the slide. I'd get a seat by the bottom of the big slide. There are some shady spots there. Also right there is the "whirlin waters" or current type circular area. He loved this as well. The current is surprisingly strong. There really is no rush to get a seat. The pool is so big there is room for everyone.

Has the sinking sands area been fixed?

We have been to BCV the last two summers. On non park days we would get to the pool around 10 am and have pretty much our choice. By 11 all tables were taken. By 12 it is crowded. By 2 most chairs are gone. When we would go to the parks then come back to swim after lunch, we had trouble finding chairs near the pool. Upper deck was usually avaliable. It has shade but a walk up the stairs in 90 degree temperature wasn't fun. We weren't over at the small kids area near the Yacht Club so there may have been chairs there. When we were ready to leave there was always a thankful family ready to take our seats. The pool itself never seemed very crowded just the chairs with towels and personal belongings. The pool is fabulous. They even have pool games on some days which my kids enjoyed. Have a great time!

Hi there... no genius here!... just been going to the Beach Club since 1993... we still love it!

The tables with umbrellas are on the Yacht Club side near the sandy area (if getting a table is really important to you) however the area near the base of the slide and whirlpool on the Beach Club side is also very shady and is (here's the 'secret' ) close to the kiddie slide, which is where I'll bet your 5 year-old (if anything like *our* 5 year-old) will want to spend a great deal of time.

This is not to say the sandy, tide pool area is not for 5 year-olds! Our dd enjoyed socializing in the tide pool area, building sand castles, and donning a vest and 2 seater water tube to travel the 'river' with a new friend she had made.

What can I say, life is full of tough decisions!

Our strategy is to always start out on the Beach Club side until the kids can bear to get away from the kiddie slide... then move to the tide pools later in the day for the unofficial 'toddler social hour' (they organize games for the little ones and the kids hang out and chat after a hard day of play... it is just the cutest thing to watch btw!)

You can hardly go wrong either way!
