I just got a MouseSavers e-mail and it said the following:

Stormalong Bay Pool (Yacht & Beach Club Resort) closed 1/5/09 - 4/15/09 for refurbishment. Guests may use the three leisure pools in the resort or the feature pool at Disney's BoardWalk.

Has this been discussed before and I just missed it? We booked our first DVC stay (rented points) for this March and part of the reason I picked BCV was so the kids could enjoy SAB. Granted, I'm also looking forward to the theming and location, but I feel a little disappointed about the closure. Should I look at trying to change to BWV and stay at BC/BCV another time? I'm afraid that would be a hassle to find availability - not to mention a hassle to the nice owner that has rented to us.

Yup, it has been discussed a bit. The general consensus seems to be that they won't close the whole pool but will work on it in sections.

I have to add that the 4/15 end date is fairly new. I had been hearing end of March.

I'm sorry about your trip. I would be majorly bummed if SAB was closed during a visit to BCV - since the pool would be the main reason I would want to stay there.

I am on the boards fairly regularly, but not necessarily on the resort or DVC boards and I just noticed SAB closing rumblings last week - so don't feel bad about not knowing.

I thought the reopening was at the "end of March" too? We are arriving at the BCV's on April 15th, so we're safe, but still thats pretty close.

I called to ask MS about this after reading last week and they did say the renovations would be done in sections but she seemed to imply the slide would be down during the entire span. Based on this, we moved our reservation to VWL instead.

Hmm... well I think we may be one of the few families that loves the BC but doesn't care all that much about the pool, so we will be staying put. Maybe this means that one day I am waitlisted for will come though!

We our going for DD's 3rd b-day and she loves the pools which is why we chose to move.

Oh, poor little one! Not overly impressed with the pool at WL ( I'm assuming you chose it for other reasons) but I love the theming of the place.

Hope she has a wonderful birthday, how lucky to do it at Disney!

Thanks for the info. I guess since parts of it will be open, we'll probably just stay with what we have. I don't expect that we'll be swimming too much....just wanted to have a place the kids could enjoy maybe one afternoon or so.

Yes, I saw it discussed here last week and called the next day to change to BW. WE only booked BC because of the pool, so this was a big deal. I don't want to look at construction no matter how cleverely hidden.

At first I booked a 1 bedroom with no problem, then changed the next day to a 2 bedroom because my sister decided to join us.

Now, we only had preferred views available, but that's fine. We had been given 100 developer points and all 2007 points when we joined this past Feb, and were going to lose them in July 2009. (We have been unable to use before now because we got pregnant on the trip we bought).

So as of last week, at least I had no trouble booking. I had my choice of quite a few hotels for studios, 1 and 2 brs.

good luck!

As soon as I found out about the pool I change our ressie. I wanted BCV because we were going to be around the pool a lot. And to think of how thrilled I was when I got into BCV originally. We're trying out WLV.

I suppose this is the same as always, but I remember reading somewhere that guests at BCV can use the pool at Boardwalk if they want that slide experience. I also remember reading that they plan to close stormalong bay in sections, so I personally would hold onto your reservation and enjoy that great location.

That might explain why I was able to get a one-bedroom reservation for spring break so easily.

I'll be canceling that trip for sure.

Dang...
