Hey to all you fellow non member cruisers! Were you sad this morning as you thought about all of those DVCers arriving at Port Canaveral and boarding the Magic?

The cruise sounds like its going to be lots of fun. maybe we can go next time!

I would have been even more sad if I hadn't just returned from 10 days at VWL.

I have been thinking of them all though, and also wondering if that's why this board seems quieter than usual.

I hope everyone has a great time!

Not only sad, but jealous!
We didn't find out about the DVC'ers cruise until after we already made plans for this coming August.
Besides, my DD 12 is having oral surgery tomorrow(Monday) and my DW(48) has to have hip replacement surgery on Feb, 24th. She wouldn't have felt up to a cruise right now anyhow.
But, I'm still JEALOUS and :(

For whatever reason you couldn't, we're sorry you couldn't make it too.. :(

If you are at all interested look in the SS Member Cruise thread on this forum; I'll keep it updated.

It's my birthday today and wouldn't I have loved to be spending it on the cruise. Oh well, maybe next time. After all, we just got back from cruising in November, so it was just a tad bit too soon to go again.

Happy Birthday Leanne. Today is DS' birthday too. We would've loved to have gone but couldn't take DS out of school. He is a junior. We may go on a cruise when he graduates next year so I can't wait to hear what everyone thought of this cruise. I may not be there in body but my spirit is with them!!! Annmarie

My feelings exactly!!!

I tried to catch the Disney Wonder on the twopalms webcam last night, but either it passed by before 5:30 or after 6:10 (when the webcam stopped updating).

hopefully we can make it next time!

Towncrier,
It went past before 5:30 Sunday night. I went to the other sight that shows the ships in port, and the Wonder had already left, that was at 5:18, I went back to twopalms, but did not see the Wonder. However, about 5:25 or so, it looked like a Carnival ship go by.:(

I saw the Carnival ship go by. Drat. I really wanted to capture an image and post it on the DVC boards. I didn't think about it until a little after 5:30. I guess that I should have set my alarm in my Palm Pilot. :(

Towncrier,
I was busy on the boards myself, when I realized what time it was, it was too late. I missed the Magic the night before, because I was switching back and forth from the two websites. I saw the Magic leaving the dock on the one site, but when I went back to twopalms, I couldn't get back on. Next week, I stay on twopalms starting at 5:00, LOL!

I waited 40 minutes for the Wonder to sail by. I was fortunate enough to catch the ship when my wife sailed with her mom and aunt last October. I managed to capture the sequence of the ship sailing by as well as one where the Wonder was perfectly centered in the frame. We ended up getting that frame printed on a 4x6 print to include in our photo album.

I've got to work out a better system for capturing the ships as they sail by.

Towncrier,
How do you go about capturing the ships as they go by, I haven't tried that yet?

It's not easy. I open up about 10 copies of Microsoft Paint. I then startup up a browser with the twopalms website showing. Then I wait. When the ship appears in the frame, I hit the "print screen" button on the keyboard, then quickly switch to the first copy of the paint program and paste the contents into the window. I quickly go back to the browser and wait for the next update (between 5 and 10 seconds) and repeat the process until the ship passes out of view of the webcam. Then I go back and save each of the frames that I captured via Paint and use another program to crop the fullscreen images to just the webcam window.

Once you have all the cropped files, you can use a GIF animator program to make an animation of the ship sailing by.

I noticed yesterday that, if you say that your browser does not support Java, the picture presented can be saved as a JPEG image. But the screen did not appear to update in that mode, so I will have to play around a bit to see if using the non-Java version is a workable alternative.

It takes lots of practice, but the results are worth it. I have an example from October 2001 but I will have to look for it. In the meantime, here is the single frame with the Disney Wonder centered.

I found an easier way. By bringing up the non-Java version of the webpage, you can find the address of the actual displayed image by right clicking the image and looking at the properties. You can then simply copy that URL into your browser and keep hitting refresh and saving the image whenever it changes. Don't forget to rename it each time you save it.

And that's easier???

(If you hit refresh, the above image should change)

Towncrier,

O.K., thanks, I'll have to play around with later.

If you use a commercial paint program, you can do multiple captures. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and it has this and a workshop to create the animated gifs.
