Just a few questions. I just applied for the WDWCP and I am going to the Presentation 02/25/04. I was wondering what the Presentation was like or if anyone has any tips for me. What is the likelyhood that I will be accepted? And how do you deal with the anxiety of the wait after the Presentation LOL :rotfl:
Any info would be greatly helpful. THANX SOOOOOO MUCH!!

Here's the advice I can give you:

Ask lots of questions during the presentation, this will help erase a lot of the he said/she said that you hear about the program. Also take notes, they are a good thing to have.

Dress casual as if you were going to an interview

In your interview....don't lie! If they ask you if food service was the last job available on the program would you take it....if you don't want it, tell them that! I told them I wanted nothing to do with food service while working at Disney. I explained to them that I was server and at that time, had been for about 11 years, so going to Disney to do that was pointless. I did tell her however if Custodial was the last job available that I WOULD take that one. She told me she really appreciated my honesty.

I smiled a lot in my interview and I was genuine about it. No fake smiles, they can be spotted easily. :D

Answer only the questions they ask you, don't "volunteer" information.

Last but certainly, not least, relax and take a deep breath, you're going to be just fine. :teeth:

Also, visit www.wdwcollegeprogram.com to get more answers on the program before you go.

There are a few others: UncleKyle and Angiebelle who also did the program who can give you some good advice.

I do hope I've helped somewhat,

Denise

PS
Welcome to the DIS:sunny:

Your presentation will last around an hour. There will be alumni from the program there, including your campus reps. Your recruiter will be there, along with whatever trip partners are there.

During the presentation, remember that they are watching you! Look interested, ask questions, talk to some of the reps and alumni about their experiences after the presentation. One thing that's true about CP alumni...almost all of us will talk your ear off about our CP with very little prompting. Bone up on your Disney trivia before you go...you might have a chance to win a small prize.

It's great that you've already filled out the application!! Watch for posters to start appearing around your campus pretty soon. Also, if you have a student union, watch for info tables and things like that. Meet your campus reps! They're there to answer any questions you have and are a great source of information! If you don't know who they are, tell me what school you go to and I can PM you an e-mail address.

Be prepared for a group interview; often they're done in groups of three or four. If you have a resume prepared, go ahead and turn that in with your application. If you don't have one, don't worry about it. It's a nice touch, but not absolutely necessary. Remember that it is a job interview with a Fortune 100 company! Dress appropriately and be there early. Make sure you know where you're interviewing beforehand.

You may have a chance to interview the night of the presentation, so bring your application and dress appropriately for the presentation, too. You'll be given a couple of forms, one that give the recruiter a little more information and one that describes the roles available and has you rate them according to your interest. Make sure you read the roles sheet carefully, and be honest! If you don't want to work quick-service food and beverage or custodial, be honest about it. It's much better to be honest about it in the first place than to be unhappy with your role once you're on the CP.

As for the anxiety of the wait after the presentation, I don't know what to tell you. I went on Spring Break (to WDW, no less) the week after my presentation, and had everything waiting for me in my mailbox when I got home! If you look around on the web, there are tons of WDWCP message boards (I run one; link's in my profile -- it'll be down for a few more days, but it's there!) where you can commiserate with others who are waiting.

The likelyhood of your acceptance is near impossible to determine. It depends on your recruiter, and where they think you'd go best, and whether or not there are opportunities in that area.

Good luck! If you have any more questions, there are also quite a few current campus reps on the board. I know Jimmybop is a rep, so am I.

DD was in the CP and got a lot out of it. Go find out more and PM me if there is anything I can help you with:earsboy:

Arrive early for the presentation if at all possible. As some have said talk to the recuriter and other alumni that might be at the presentation, I'm sure they'd be willing to share stories with you. Also be prepared for anything at the presentation, this night should be the one time you are all about disney and are all for working at the best place on earth. They seemed to love it that some of us at my presentation where disneyholics.

Dress as if you were going for an interview for employment. Make sure to bring all pertinent papers with you and have them ready to hand over when asked for. Also answer all the questions honestly and don't be afraid to tell them about your previous experiences in certain areas (ie: Matience/custodial, fast food, and the like). Also if they ask you how you would do a certain job they might place you in, don't always answer to what they want to hear but answer how you really feel about that job.

As one has already said, bone up on trivia. I won a pen for knowing that they were celebrating Walt's 100th birthday the year I applied. Most of all go into the interview with a positive attitude and an excitement for disney.

Good Luck! and keep us posted

I don't know how many people are accepted now, but when I did it ('92), they hired maybe 10 people out of the 200+ applicants. (YES I'm an old-timer!) :p

I was so excited about the possibility of working at WDW that I don't think they could have possibly turned me down, even though I had NO work experience.

I had never heard of the College Program before I saw the posters at my school, and my heart liked to have leapt out of my chest when I read them. I was a very quiet person then, but you could NOT shut me up or take that huge grin off of my face during that interview!

When they asked me why I wanted to work at WDW, I told them something about how WDW was a very special place to me, and I wanted to help other people realize what a special place it is. Well, it was TRUE (here I am singing its praises 29 years after my first visit), and it apparently worked! ;)

Good luck! It will be one of the best experiences of your life, no doubt.

Wow lots of long replies so I'll keep mine short. I got accepted for Fall of 01. There were about 40 people from my school that applied and they took 8 of us. In the interview just be yourself, if your outgoing, honest, and cheerful then a recruiter will spot that. Just follow most normal interview rules and be open and completely honest. Also their will be alumni at the presentation you will attend. Ask them for advice, they might even know the recruiter and give you some good pointers. Good luck!

DocRafiki... "old timer"??? Geez, you're really making me dread my birthday next week now... Yep, I'm an alum of the Spring '90 WDWCP! Truly the best time of my life!

I agree with another poster that the ones actually chosen were few and far between. I had called them so many times prior to the interview, they KNEW my name! I was so excited, I couldn't help it! Just go, be confident, and let your love of Disney shine through! Good luck!!!

Wow Thanks everyone I am so glad that I started to ask questions. :D

The presentation that I am going to is not at my school, there is not one at my school. But I am determined to get the opportunity to do this. It is my ultimate dream to someday work for Disney, and preferably for WDW. Sometimes I joke with my friends and family and say that I don't even care what I do I just want to work there. Wish is really true but I am going to school for Multimedia Production and Design. (from animation to video and audio).
SoonerKate , would it be a good idea to contact the recruiter especially since I do not attend that school? The presentation that I am going to attend is on 2/25/04 @ Moriane Valley College in Orland Park, IL @ 3:00 pm.
I can and will have a resume on hand, better to be over prepared then under right. It would be hard for me not to be myself at the interview since I have a deep love for The Mouse ::MickeyMo and everything Disney. Some people say I am obsessed. LOL :rotfl: I mean I don't know about anyone else out there but I have MM small appliances, dishes, silverware, glassware, Bathroom accessories, sinkstrainer, etc.
Not everything....yet! :goodvibes
Even if I do not get in the time I'm not too worried, I plan on applying until I get in!!!!!!::yes::

Thanks again everyone I will keep everyone updated as the process goes.
Karen

This opportunity wasn't available at my school either! I had to drive 2-3 hours to the interview. That's one reason they knew me by name, because I kept calling them and hounding them so much, making sure this would work at my school, etc... Maybe that's a good sign, and shows them how interested you really are!

Best of luck to you!!! :teeth:

Definitely mention this! At my interview, I and about 20 other people drove 1.5-2 hours to get to the interview. The recruiter was impressed with our dedication. :) In fact, mostof the people who got in from that group were from the other schools, not the school it was actually held at!

I don't have any other advice but be honest, be yourself, relax and have fun! My presentation was very light hearted and it was the easiest interview (but most nerve racking because I really wanted it!)

The CP was one of the best experiences of my life - I highly recommend it!

I don't think there's anything I can add that hasn't already been said. I'm an alum from spring 2001. I've since graduated and moved to FL- as a CM again of course. :) Good luck.

Just another thanks to everyone that has helped answer questions

I am going to call the number on the WDWCP website, I think it is the recruiter, Her last name is Quinn. I have it at home but I am not there right now.

Anyways.

I tell everyone I see how many days left until I go to this presentation. I am SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! :bounce:

But I am also trying to contain my excitement incase I do not get chosen this time.

Woah! That is fabulous! I think you're only the 3rd person I've ever heard from who was in an earlier CP than me (other than our CP reps). Were you in Vista Way, or were they still in the trailers back then? Did you live with international students? Does it still feel like yesterday to you, too? It's depressing to see how much Vista Way has changed. We thought we were at Club Med when we got there! We were expecting barren dorms!

Mickeys -- it really sounds like you'll make it. They can't very well turn down someone who's obsessed with Disney, can they? It seems like almost all of the DIS members who apply make it. If you're obsessed enough to come here, I guess they want you. :p

I am alumni Fall 2001 and FT CM since then all I have to say is be yourself, you'll be fine! The College Program has been fluctuating in numbers lately but there aren't that many here this semester so if your interviewing for Fall 2004 you should be all set. Like I said be yourself, smile, and above all remember it's WDW do what you think Walt Would!
