Have you ever seen an actor or actress go beyond what they've been typed as and do well in the role?

I can think of two. Sandra Bullock in her role in Crash. She was far from the sweet, funny person she usually plays. Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actually played a quiet, serious, almost brooding person.

My favorite Tom Cruise role was as the producer in Tropic Thunder.
I really liked Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, as well.
There are others, I just can't think of them.

Tons, I watch a lot of movies.;) Off the top of my head....

Interview with a Vampire, excellent movie in which actors had dig deep.

Kirsten Dunst (as a child, impressed the heck out of me)
Tom Cruise
Brad Pitt

Temple Grandin

Claire Danes (very impressive in that role!)

I am stopping now because I have too many....:lmao:

Anne has already gone beyond "type". Have you seen her in Havoc?

There was that one year where Robin Williams played killer psychos (Insomnia, One Hour Photo). Not great movies, but the typecast role-switch blew my mind.

Sticking with the Batman franchise, Heath Ledger in BK, never knew that guy was that good until that movie, then he blew me and just about everyone else away with his Joker:scared1: awesome performance.

HOnestly, who would've thought Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson could've made a good Batman and the Joker way back when too?

Well I thought Jack Nicholson was a fantastic choice for the Joker back then and did a great job, never thought Mike Keeton was a good choice at all, the first movie was good enough to where it didn't matter, but I thought the Keeton choice was HORRIBLE. I think CBale is doing a good job.

Will Ferrell in Stranger Than Fiction.... I have mixed feelings about this movie and I'm not convinced that it worked very well.

Amy Adams in The Fighter. Love her.

Robin Williams in One Hour Photo (psycho deranged stalker of a young boy)

John Belushi in Continental Divide (serious role)

Bill Murray in Lost in Translation (serious drama role)

Al Pacino as Jack Kevorkian in You don't Know Jack.. excellent role.

Will Smith in Six Degrees of Separation

Adam Sandler in Funny People and Spanglish; these roles were nice departures for him.

Kevin Costner in Fandango (just saw this movie for the first time . I really enjoyed his performance in it.)

Keanu Reeves in The Devils Advocate

Meryl Streep in Mama Mia-- I can't have my Silkwood and Sophie's Choice person cavorting on a mysterious island..

Felicity Huffman in Transamerica
