Will Stephenie Meyer ever write again?!?!

Not only do I love the Twilight series, I really enjoyed The Host too. (And I'm super happy that it will be made into a movie too.) But I'm beginning to wonder if she will ever write again. I know she said she would eventually finish Midnight Sun but is there anyway she could speed that process up... Anyone heard any rumors of that or any new novels?

I think she needs to take a break. I loved the first 3 Twilight books and Host, but not the final Twilight. It didn't have the same thoughtfulness, so I'm happy to let her take some time, slow down, and get back in her groove.

In past interviews Stephenie has stated that she will continue to write however I think for the time being she is done with vampires. I remember something being mentioned about her next book would be about mermaids but I haven't heard anything new lately of when a new book would be released. Since the leak of her parital Midnight Sun draft she has been really silent about any future books.

I hadn't heard anything about a mermaid book. Doesn't matter to me if it's vampire based...I just enjoy her writing.

I haven't heard much lately about any new projects but about here is a small quote from an older Rolling Stone article mentioning mermaids and a couple other projects for Stephenie ....... ( keep in mind this article was written before the leak of Midnight Sun since we all know now because of the leak she is putting Midnight Sun on hold for now)

Meyer tells Rolling Stone she’ll take next year to work on Midnight Sun, a retelling of Twilight from the perspective of her male lead, Edward, that she began after discovering he was misunderstood by readers. Then there’s a possible sequel to her first adult novel, The Host (”Those characters are really hard to put away”), a potential ghost story (”I’m pretty excited about it because I get to make up my own world there”) and even a mermaid tale (”I love the idea, and I love the characters, but I don’t know if I can do it”).

I'm pretty sure Midnight Sun is a no go for now. She could possibly finish it, but I think it will be a looong time from now after the way she talked about it. And that makes me so sad, because its by far my favorite.
But The Host is supposed to be a trilogy. And I've heard the mermaids mentioned quite a bit. They're canabalistic..

If you look on her website, she explains that she is not going to finish Midnight Sun and explains why.

I thought she is writing the 2nd book to the Host and there will be a third. Also, the movie rights have been bought for The Host.

She has said many times she has not immediate plans on finishing Midnight Sun. Which is a shame because it is fantastic!

I loved The Host so I'd love a follow up to that book.

If you're interested in a light read check out MaryJanice Davidson. She has several series, I love her Mermaid Series, she also has a cyborg, werewolf, Betsy the vampire Queen, and a dragon (Jennifer Scales) series as well. She is a hilarious writer.

June 2008 Update: In response to the outrageous number of emails that I have received with questions concerning Midnight Sun, I talked to Stephenie this weekend and she asked me to let everyone know that Midnight Sun is her next project. She has not yet finished writing it (and there is no timeline set up, so we all need to put a lot of effort into being patient for a while longer), but she is definitely still planning on having it published. And, after Breaking Dawn comes out, Stephenie will have much more time to focus on writing Midnight Sun.

This was an update posted on her website also. She will finish it at some point.

I didn't know The Host was going to have other books to follow. It was awesome...I can't imagine how she can add to the story.

I downloaded the draft of Midnight Sun this week and this was posted in August of '08 with the link to the PDF:

"If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn't dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely."

SM was very upset about the book leaking out. I really do hope she goes back to finish it though.

I hope so, because dd13 loves her books. However, there is no way I'm reading another - the first Twilight was bad enough!E

She is going to be on Oprah tomorrow...wondering if we will learn something new from that. Below is from her website...

November 6, 2009

Hi everybody!

I wanted to apprise you all of a few upcoming things.

You know I've been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I'm not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I'm doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I'm only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big. So....I will be on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Friday, November 13th. Check the local listings on Oprah's website to find out what time it will be on where you live.

Of course, most of the questions for Oprah will be designed for a broader audience than just die-hard Twilight fans, and I imagine people who read this site and other fansites will already know most of the answers. To rectify this, I'm going to answer your more specific questions on-line. The official Twilight Saga website (www.TheTwilightSaga.com) will be taking any New Moon movie-related questions you might have for me, and then I'll answer those most frequently asked. I'll post the answers on the Twilight Saga website and also here on my own site. Questions can be submitted to TheTwilightSaga.com from noon (Eastern Standard Time) on Monday, November 9th through noon Tuesday, November 10th. The answers will be posted Monday, November 16th—or New Moon Premiere Day, as it is known around my house. (Details about submitting the questions will be posted first thing Monday morning at TheTwilightSaga.com, you can also get more information below.)

I'm so very excited that you'll all get to see New Moon in just two weeks! Then you'll see what I'm going on about. Until then, think up some good questions for me.

Love,

Steph

Hopefully she is taking the time to hone her craft before putting out another novel. No doubt she has a gift for creating a story, but she needs work on HOW to tell that story. I am sure I'm in the minority, and that I will undoubtedly be flayed for saying this, but there you have it.

Someone at my writer critique group told me that she is rewriting Twilight from Edward's point of view. I have no idea if this is true, but it would be interesting.

I agree. I really enjoyed the story that was told in the Twilight series. However there were so many times where I winced. The writing structure was pretty weak. Not saying I could do better... I write a lot, but sometimes my own work makes me wince :rotfl2:. At times it seemed like she had trouble putting her thoughts into words and it would become a jumble. It just didn't always flow and hit rough spots.
