We will be driving down to WDW and back in a few weeks. We are going to stay one night at HH, and would like to do a day tour of Savannah. I found a great visitors site for Savannah, but there are so many options of things to do, and since we have never been there, I'm wondering if anyone out there can give us some advice/tips/opinions.

Have you done, or would you do a horse drawn carriage tour (90 minutes), or a trolley tour (on/off option?)

If you have done one of these, what is your opinion and would you recommend it?

Is there a favorite area or specific place/attraction you liked about Savannah you feel is a must see?

Where can we park for the day while we use these different touring options?

What restaurants would you recommend for lunch and dinner?

I'd really appreciate any info you can share.

Thanks, Diane

We did a day trip and picked a couple of homes to tour. We had lunch at The Lady and Sons (Paula Deen Food Network) and loved it. We arrived about 1:15 and had to wait about 10 minutes. be prepared to go when they open or after the lunch crowd because you ahev to wait outside and it is very hot in August. Beautiful city, we'd love to go back.

IMHO, you're doing yourself a disservice by trying to tour Savannah when you have only one night at the Hilton Head resort. The resort itself, as well as Hilton Head Island, have so much to offer. You can't possibly take it all in in that short of period of time.

If it were me, I'd either stay somewhere other than Hilton Head (because you have a good 45-minute drive from I-95 to the resort) and tour Savannah OR I would skip Savannah and spend some time on Hilton Head. Until you actually get there and see the resort and the island, you can't appreciate how much there is to do!

Good luck on your decision. In any case, have a wonderful time!!

Thanks for your input, it's appreciated. We have spent time in HH in the past, and will again. This time, we are really just using HH Resort for a sleep over. On the way back from FLA we are going straight to Savannah, in the early morning, and plan to spend the day through dinner.

We have decided to do an on/off trolley tour, with lunch at the Pirates House.

Thanks again for your input

We did the trolley tour. I don't remember the name, but it was the white trolley. It was very good and very informative.

DH and I felt confident to tour by car after taking the trolley tour. You can park next to the visitors center, which is the starting point for all of the trolley tours. It is on MLK Jr. Blvd. adjacent to the historic district.

We got off the trolley a few times. If I had a do-over, I would have stayed on the trolley for the duration, and then did whatever we wanted by car afterwards. Make sure to sample the free pralines on river street. I would also take the state highway instead of the interstate from HH to Savannah. It was very scenic, and not any more time since I95 is a little bit out of the way.

We  Savannah!
