I am thinking about signing up for this and I just read that there are discounted multi-day passes on sale but you need a password to get to the site to find out the prices. I haven't signed up for it yet and may not until closer to the date. So I have a few question's that can hopefully be answered here.

1) How much would it cost for a 4 day non-hopper ticket ? What about if I added waterparks and more and changed it to 3 day ? Can I do that ?

2) Does it have to be for the runners (the tickets) or can I get them for the 2 people that are coming with me even though they are not running or related to me ?

3)Anybody else just speedwalking this thing ? I am not a runner and hate running, but I can walk pretty fast.

okay, just walked my first 3.2 miles ever. 52 minutes.

Is there such thing as walking/running sandals ? I hate socks and sneakers !! I wear my sandals from March/April until November when we have more then 3 inches of snow

I did the EE last year and it was a very fun event. I don't know if they will have it set up the same way this year, but last year you ran a 5K, then you went through an obstacle course (over some pretty high walls, up a rope net and down the other side, across a balance beam and then you had to crawl on the ground under another rope net). After all that, then you had to go on a scavenger hunt in animal kingdom. The scavenger hunt was my favorite part, but I think my wife and I (we did EE as a team) probably ran/walked another 2 miles or so around animal kingdom trying to find everything we needed to.

My only complaint was that teams were sent off in strictly controlled waves from the start. First singles without teams started. Then all male teams. Then all female teams. Then co-ed teams. Two friends we did the race with was in the first wave (both single male teams) and they had completed the entire race + scavenger hunt before my wife and I even left the start. We easily had to wait for between 60-90 minutes until we were allowed to start the race.

I understand that they had to do it this way to prevent too many people from being on the obstacle course at the same time, but hopefully they will change things a bit this year so that more people can start at once.

That wait time is CRAZY !What if you need the full 1:45 to walk the race ? I think if they are worrie about how many people will be in the obstacle course at a time then they should limit the number of entries more or have more than one course set up.

Bumping to hope for an answer to some of my questions

Thanks !!

These are the special ticket prices for Race for the Taste participants that were posted on this thread.

Base / Park hopper or Water Park / Both
1-Day $49.76 $62.91 $75.11
2-Day $98.59 $111.73 $123.93
3-Day $136.15 $149.29 $161.49
4-Day $168.07 $181.22 $193.42
5-Day $195.30 $208.45 $220.65
6-Day $204.69 $217.84 $230.04
7-Day $214.08 $227.23 $239.42
8-Day $231.00 $281.00 $331
9-Day $234.00 $284.00 $334
10-Day $237.00 $287.00 $337

My guess is that the special prices for EEC are similar. It looks close to what I remember paying last year. Don't forget that your race registration comes with a 1-day non-hopper ticket good at Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or Epcot.

2) Does it have to be for the runners (the tickets) or can I get them for the 2 people that are coming with me even though they are not running or related to me ?

The specially priced tickets can be used by friends who are non-runners. They don't ask or check. The only downside of purchasing these tickets is that they can't be added to your key to the world card. It's not a huge deal and I didn't really mind at the time. But when I was back at WDW in March I loved the convenience of using my KttW card for everything.

3)Anybody else just speedwalking this thing ? I am not a runner and hate running, but I can walk pretty fast.

Personally I'm a runner, but yes there will be walkers at EEC too.

I'm definitely in the speedwalker category. I will occasionally ( for maybe 30 seconds, break into a jog),but I mainly walk. :confused3Why stress the joints! :rotfl:

I cannot agree more !! :lmao::lmao:

When people find out my DH runs, they ask if I do too. I tell them, "If I'm being chased !" I'm still conflicted about wether to sign up or not. I kind of really want to, just so I can say I did it. I just started "walking" this week and by the time the race starts, my DD and I should have our time up pretty good. This first one was, I'm looking to try to speed walk it in under 40 minutes which I think will be very possible. I do need to wear better shoes than I did this week. I'm looking at some running sandals which should work fine since I'm not even really running.

My dh and I did the race together last year and we had a blast. They have to have strict contol of the waves because the paths in AK are pretty narrow. We ran in the first coed corral and I think we were pretty competitive for the 5k since we finshed with the end of the mens teams and the womens teams. We had to dodge walking women the entire way and at times we were literally leaping over obstacles on the sides of the path. (note: we missed one clue because we were in too big a hurry to actually walk all the way around a sign so our fantastic 5k was moot in the end)

The race was great fun and I highly recommend it to everyone. A couple that we raced the entire 5k with ended up finishing over an hour after us because they couldn't agree on the answers to the clues. There were PLENTY of walkers so you will still have a good time. This is one race where speed just doesn't mean that much in the end.

Good Luck!

I'm in the same boat. DH and I signed up for it, and we are very excited. He is very athletic (runner, etc), and I am VERY unathletic. My exercise regimen (when I do it...:headache:) is walking and exercise videos (hehe). Anyway, I told him that he HAS to finish with me, so he will have to walk! I am really nervous about the obstacle course though...hurdles, etc have NEVER been my thing. I have a feeling that part is not going to go well for me...ick. When i do a treadmill (which I know is diff than actually walking, but for a daily workout I have better access to one of those than I do a good area to walk), it takes me about 45 minutes to do 3 miles. I am going to *try* to get my speed up a bit, but I'm not sure...I haven't been able to work out in a while because I really screwed up both of my bid toes' nails. I think what happened was that the running shoes I had on were a bit shorter than I thought and with the force of walking on the treadmill I was slamming my toes in to the end of the show. They both have gotten bruised REALLY bad. Like black bad. I am still scared that my toe nails are going to fall off because it has been two months since it happened and they still look like I dropped a brick on them!!!:eek:

There were a ton of walkers last year. I don't think they really swept the course. I had some kind of terrible respiratory thing going on, so DH & I walked for stretches & still came in the top 100 out of 450-ish co-ed teams with 4 correct clues.

The obstacle course was insane. It was really crowded. It killed me to wait in line for an obstacle during a "race". We are both fairly agile & could have blown through the course in about 1/2 the time it took us to wait at each station. I wish they would control access to the obstacles and time splits for this race - chip time the 5K, then not restart your time until you enter the obstacle course, then time the scavenger hunt. All they would need are 2 additional timing mats, one at the entrance to the obstacle course, one at the exit.

Welcome to the lost toenail world. I lost 2 toenails this past year due to wearing socks with too much toe material ( for me). Wear your lost toesnails as a badge. :rotfl:
Seriously, it does happen, but don't let it discourage you from your goals!

Hehe, well thank you, I will have to follow your advice! :yay:

My husband got quite a kick out of your post. I make him check my toenails for looseness quite often...:sad2:

I'm going to have to get back to exercising, I just don't want my toenails to get worse.
