S. California City Pass Question

I read about the S. California City Pass and how to redeem at Disneyland. I also saw that Disneyland is about 1+ hour to Universal in traffic. On the City Pass site it said something about upgrading the ticket at Universal to front of the line. Online that option is very expensive. My question is if I do it at the ticket booth do they credit the amount of the normal ticket and then make you pay the difference.

We are heading over from Phoenix on June 7th. I thought about a couple days at Disneyland, then Universal and then heading down to San Diego for a day and do the zoo or Sea World. I am aware of the drive between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Is the City Pass a good deal in a situation like this.

I was looking at HoJo for the nights at Disneyland and Universal.

Personally, I wouldn't want to drive to L.A., spend the day at Universal, and then have to drive back to Anaheim. Also, depending on which route you take, there could be traffic or construction. We hit construction traffic just outside of Anaheim on the way to L.A. about a week and a half ago.

Do not waste your money on Front of the Line. It's the biggest rip-off.

When you get to the park, go to the lower lot and do Jurassic Park and the Mummy. You will be able to ride them to your heart's content, over and over again, until noon, because the line will never get above 10 minutes, even in the summer.

The Simpsons ride does get long lines, but it is rarely longer than 45 minutes. The Studio Tour is rarely longer than a 30 minute line, and the line moves ridiculously fast.

We took our first trip to Disneyland in June 2009. We were only there for a week and bought the CityPass. Since it was our 1st time in California we definitely wanted to see all the places offered on the Citypass. I thought it was a great deal and it would have been even a better deal if I had bought it online from Costco. I would not spend the extra money for the front of the line pass - we got on everything we wanted pretty quickly. The people who work at Universal are extremely helpful and friendly and will direct you to the less crowded places.
We stayed at the Grand Californian the whole week and drove to San Diego twice during the week for the zoo and SeaWorld and then to Hollywood for Universal Studios. The trip to San Diego was 1.5 to 2 hours, we left early in the morning and luckily, did not have really bad traffic. The trip to Hollywood from Anaheim was about 45 minutes - it didn't seem any worse than our average Philadelphia expressway traffic - slow in some spots, then moving pretty steadily
I was really glad we got the Citypass - we might not have gone to Universal if we didn't have the pass - it ended up being one of our favorites.

We just got back last night and purchased the city pass since it was our first time to the area and wanted to get as much in as possible and thought it was a great deal. We flew into San Diego spent the day there, drove to LA that evening to avoid traffic and stayed 2 nights, did the Hollywood thing to. Then drove to Aneheim and spent 4 nights there. We got up early the next morning and headed to San Deigo for the zoo and Sea World. It was extremely hot and it was extremely busy. If we did it again we would have a relax/rest day in there but we weren't planning on the heat. We had no crowds and Universal and there was no need for the front of line pass but June may be different. The drive wasn't bad at all and we never got in traffic but again except for the one time we always drove at the end of the day (we aren't morning people). Hope this helped and have a great trip!!
