DH told me last night that he wanted to take a week long scuba trip with our oldest DS next summer. I, of course, said I'm not sitting home for an entire week while he's in the Caribbean. We've talked about me taking our two other DSs on another cruise at the same time. The thing is, we'd be short by about 140 pts.

First, I'd like to know when you book while onboard, do they discount points for DVC members? Secondly, how do we make up that difference? How does that work?

TIA!

When we were on board last December they did start a program that allowed a points discount if you booked on board but it was only good in your 11 month window, I have heard that has changed now (too bad for us as we had to wait a month to book) You are allowed to pay cash for anyone after the first person (who must be points) but you can not split a person in half paying half points half cash for an individual.

We just booked a cruise for Jan 04 with points and cash. It was very easy. Just call Member Services and tell them what week you want to cruise and they'll see how many points you have. Then they'll tell you what the difference will be in cash. There are two catches. 1. You have to pay the cah portion in full at the time of booking. 2. You have to pay for a full person's fare in either points or cash, not both. Meaning that if an adult fare is 200 points for the week and you only have 150 points left, you cannot use the 150 points and pay the difference in cash. I know this sounds confusing and I didn't do a very good job of explaining it but member services will help you with everything.

Thank you both. Both posts made perfect sense. Now I have another question. If we didn't have the cash when we booked, could I book just one or two in the cabin and add the other(s) later?

The thing about Disney Cruise is you pay for two in a cabin even if there is one (they upcharge) so you would have to pay for two regardless. I believe you could pay for two and then add on to your reservation but keep in mind there are restrictions as to how many children per age group Disney will accept on a sailing- this is to insure that ALL children can be accomodated in the clubs/labs etc even if you do not plan on using them. So you may find yourself in a pickle if you first book saying no kids and then try to add them at a later date. When we book through MS they take your creditcard number and charge it directly to that so I guess you could charge it and pay it off slowly if you don't have the cash up front. Also there is a 75.00 fee for using MS.
