We're staying at Polynesian this Friday. We have already requested, at time of booking, and been promised a non-smoking room for dd due to asthma issues and the humidity. We also requested a balcony in hopefully Tokelau. I really don't want to fax another request down, so my question is.....can you request something different than what they give you upon check-in? Can you ask to see what else might be open? I don't want to appear pushy but if this is something a lot of you do then I might not feel so 'assertive' about it. I've been over to Steve's tikiman site and think I'm pretty well versed in what longhouses are what. What do you all think about asking for a different room at check-in??

We never fax in a room request but ask nicely at check in. We have always gotten what we asked for and then some.

I've never faxed in a room request and have never had trouble having my requests met. Like yours, I keep mine simple and don't request anything I'm not paying for (like a better view).

I think as long as they have the rooms available the CMs will do their best to accomodate you.

If there is more than one adult in your party, have the person who is the nicest/most charming do the asking. Face it - some people get what they want through charm - others (either consciously or subconsciously) get hostile. Also, timing is important. Don't stand there trying to screw up your courage during the entire check in process, then start asking questions once the keys have been coded, etc. The less work you can make it for the CM the better.
