So on another thread I read that you can request a certain location? If that is so, where should I ask for? And can you sit 8 people there?

In general when people make a location request they just ask to be seated next to the water. It isn't a huge restaurant but being next to the water gets a great view of the begining of the Pirates of the Carribbean. You can see the boatloads of people floating through the moonlit swamp. If you are seated over a row or so you can still see okay. If you are seated near or in the back row, you can't see the boats and sets to well but the atmosphere is still good.

Ditto the above
Also I personally don't like to sit right next to the water - although it is really cool to do so I find it a bit too dark for my liking. The only location request I make when we check in is that our table be "not next to the kitchen" there are a couple of smaller tables there (so that should not be an issue for you).
We have always gotten great spots since doing this and even if you have to wait a few extra minutes it is worth it!
Have fun!!

If you want to sit near the water, I suggest calling exactly 30 days prior to your date and getting reservations. I was told waterside tables are given according to the order on the list and those that called first got the tables. We were there for the first seating of the day and were in the middle of the restaurant. I called about 2 weeks in advance.

Also, I would suggest getting a reservation about an hour AFTER the BB opens. This should ensure people are finishing their meals and water tables should be vacant, and if you request a waterside table you should be able to get one after a short wait.

There was a large party sitting near us that was the second row from the water. I'm not sure if a table of 8 will fit near the water, but you can always ask when you check in.

We had a dinner reservation for Blue Bayou for 5:30....and we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation time (although, we are SO programmed by WDW to arrive 15 minutes prior to our seating.. )...we had a table near the water and we just loved it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I figured that the people with reservations got the water-side seats and the walk-ins did not? It just seemed to work out like that in the time when we were there.

^ We had a reservation and were in the very back. It was still nice, but I would definitely try for a water view next time.

I guess we were just lucky!! :p We really did enjoy it! Good luck with your request!

We had a reservation and when we showed up they said if we wanted to request a table by the water it would be a wait. We waited (about 10 minutes), it was worth it.

The large parties sat at tables that had been pushed together to make a larger table. There was a table of eight sitting right by the edge of the river. They should be about to accommodate your river request, you might have to wait a little longer though.

As others have said, you only have to make the request to sit by the water and then wait. We waited about naother 15 minutes and I think it was worth it to be able to sit along the edge and only have the river and boats to look at with no people in the way to spoil the view. I would also say you would have to make reservations ahead of time to get in. We saw many people turned away while we were waiting for our table.
