Ryanair Florida?

Saw this earlier on - interesting :)

Have travelled with Ryanair to Europe with hand luggage only for great price, but do not think I would do it to USA.

Price of £10 plus taxes and all the additional costs of baggage costs, inflight entertainments, drinks and food would be only slightly lower than Virgin or BA in a sale or an indirect flight.

I know who I would rather fly with if travelling for 9 to 10 hours!!!!!!

Michael O'Leary's been on Breakfast news and dismissed claims that appeared in yesterdays news. He said they are hoping to acquire some planes in the next 18 months or so to possibly start long haul flights within the next 5 years.

THATS GOOD TO KNOW, I REALLY HAD A HARD TIME TRAVEELING TO SPAIN ON THEM LET ALONE 9 hours to florida!

I'd use them if it came out much cheaper, but Stanstead and Dublin are both a long way from me so that would all add to the cost.

It was on our local radio (here in Ireland) this morning that plans are put on hold because of the fuel prices & the amount they have lost in profit in the last 6ish months.

Have to say though I'd rather find the extra £600 odd to fly with someone like VA or BA what with it being a loooooong flight - I'd need the luxuries of the TV & entertainment, food & drinks etc throughout the flight to make it easier & not as long.

By the time you add the flight tickets with Ryanair, the taxes, baggage then all the food & drink you'd have to buy on board it starts adding up a bit and it's no longer as cheap as just £10.

Although I don't fancy the sound of Ryanair(never flown with them) I would have to see what they offered before I said no.
Just come back on Fri(landed Sat) with Delta, flew out with NWA, it was from one extreme to the other NWA was almost faultless, new planes, IFE system, superb staff. Delta, old plane, no leg room, average staff.
My choices were Virgin at over £800 return or NWA/Delta £240 x 3 of us that was a saving of £1,680. Worth the 3 hour drive to London and stopover in US hub. If Ryanair can offer similar savings I can easily live without food and TV for 9 hours, something we rarely use anyway as we eat before boarding and sleep most flights.

I do hope this does happen, my friend is a pilot for Ryanair. Its just means I would have to hassle him more to get me a flight:thumbsup2

I agree..i too could easily live without TV and food for nine hours. I would just bring my own snacks and drinks...:) ...If this saves me money I'd be for it. I really don't care how uncomfortable Iam for those few hours..its all about just getting there safely and as cheaply as possible for me.:)

Would definately have to consider it if they were offering cheap flights - replaces those lost with TCD going under maybe so might, in the long run, help stabilise the prices rather than the huge price rises some of us are expecting!

This is interesting, I think we could live without the food too! Maybe take a personal dvd player thingy for entertainment and there you go - For £8 Bargain! :)

Add charges for the priveledge of actually checking in, luggage at stupid prices per bag etc etc. £8 will end up v close to other 1 stop over airlines

I guess it will also but time will tell. If it ever even gets going.
Fly on a Tuesday with little luggage and don't buy their food and drink, there could be some deals. As I said I have never used them but I have used other low cost airlines and have had genuine bargains.

I've flown with them once, Glasgow-Paris-Barcelona (four flights there and back), for a Celtic game. Didn't have any problem at all with them, planes were on time and the fare was stupidly low (£10 return Glasgow-Paris, £30 return Paris-Barcelona incl. all taxes). A 9hr slog is a bit different to a 1 hour jaunt tho...

I'd never say never, but I don't think the savings would really be good enough to consider it. Our fare for the coming April to Orlando with Virgin is £86 return, the balance of £240 being made up of taxes (total fare was £326 each).

Ryanair would be £16 return, plus a whole host of extras for baggage, check-in, etc, then of course the taxes, which I assume would be around the same as Virgin just charged. I think any savings would be minimal...

::yes::

Put in a couple of dates for VA in November and came out with the following

LGW to MCO = £359.60

made up of the following ..........

GBP 132.00 Total fare for all
GBP 227.60 Taxes, fees, charges & surcharges

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

GBP 359.60 Total

so not quite a tenner (132.00 + tax) but yes you a right, by the time you add on luggage, checking in, meals, drinks, landing in Sanford etc.............

.......... and how many seats will actually be priced at £10 :confused3

It's not that great a deal :rolleyes1

Some of the sale prices to New York with VA were actually around £40 + taxes.

best regards

David

and what will the luggage rates be? remember virgin are pretty generous with their allowances.

To be honest I don't see how they could sustain themselves at those sort of prices :confused3 IMO cheaper isn't necessarily always better for flights, for transatlantic flights I doubt I would choose Ryanair especially in today's climate.

It would work exactly same as their business plan now. Sell X number of seats early at £8 (plus tax) sell majority at enough to make it pay then sell a few at silly prices to make up for cheap flights. They would also try make business class subsidise economy on US routes.
Although many of us on Forums like this want cheap as chips there are many people like my Brother that thinks nothing of paying £1,500+ for a better service or if he had to go economy would pay £800+ because he can't plan his trips more than 1-2 weeks in advance.

The price he wanted to charge for business was so high that I cannot see anyone who wants to fly business willing to give up their perks on VA or BA etc. to gain Ryaniar perks!!!!!

I think that it was an announcement to distract from bad results posted yesterday 47% down in last quarter to stock exchange. Also Michael Oleary again mentioned lots of European carriers will go bust and will only leave about 3 left.

Seriously Ryanair is a good cheap European carrier of no frills if you have no luggage or kids to check in (pushchair). They do not usually fly into main airports though and I think I saw the mention of New York only mentioned as an airport that was 30 odd miles from New York. No mention of Florida that I saw.
