RV Rental?

Has anyone ever hired a motor home? We are considering ways of doing our next trip to the US and thought about hiring a motor home so we can travel a bit further. There are 5 of us so a hotel can work out a bit expensive and also you have the hassle of living out of a suitcase (3 kids). Anyone got any opinions on this or can you point me to a forum that may be able to help?
