Considering traveling in Oct with 4 adults and 2 kids(2 & 3). The grandparents don't like to fly so options for getting down are pretty limited. We went down without grandparents last yr on auto train but even getting to it would be a problem with 6 in the van. I'm thinking maybe renting a small RV for the week, waiting to hear back from a few places but looking like it would run abour 1400 for the week, any ideas for anything cheaper to get us down? Likely we'd also have to stay the night somewhere so that would be another couple of bucks unless we'd get an RV big enough for everyone to sleep in, but that of course would cost more $$.

I'm curious to see if anyone responds to your question, I was looking into RVing for our next trip. Didn't know much about it though.

I've done it! In May of 99 we rented from a private owner. The cost was $1200 plus a $500 security deposit for 9 days. It was a 1997 Class A Pursuit. Something minor did happen to the RV but our insurance covered it and we got our deposit back (hit a tire in the middle of the freeway and it took off our rear bumper  ). There were 6 of us, 4 adults, 2 kids. It was a lot of fun. Ft. Wilderness is beautiful.
I called around to local storage places and ask if any of the RV owners rented them out. So you can try that. Good luck.
