You are never toooooo old to learn. With me being really old, like ancient, you still learn everyday.

We have the 'old geezers' Senior Pass for National Parks. Untill recently, we have used it twice for camping. Once right outside DC and the other I just don't remember. Grabbed again by a senior moment. Both places were dry camping. No hook-ups.

On our 7,100 mile jaunt, from PA to ID, MT, WY, CO, to make the FORT we let our computer find over-night stops.

We hit a stop off RT78 in Fulton Mississippi, almost on the Alabama border. Then we hit another off of RT 10/90 in Chattahoochee FL. From there 5 hours to the FORT.

Get to your point John: These were Federal. Absoluletly gorgeous and they cost us $9 & $10 per night. They both had concrete pads with water and 30/50 amp hook-ups. Most appear to be around lakes. I asked at Fulton, "are these parks all like this one"---The hostess said, "yes, they are basically all the same". YOU CAN RESERVE, by phone, ON THE FLY and they have somebody at the gate untill 10PM. After 10, I believe it is an honor system, but not sure.

OOOOOOPS, an addition. They have DUMP sites.

These RV Parks are called----ARMY CORP OF ENGINEER PARKS. They sell a book at these parks for $19 and it lists all of these Parks in the good Old U.S. of A. We bought the book and we will use it.

I believe there is one in Branson MO, on TableRock Lake, but not sure. Gotta' look in the book.

I would stay at one of these AC of E Parks for a week. Has to be some super fishin' there and you can run you AC to your hearts content.

Thanks John, that is good to know. We, like you, purchased our old goober pass 2 years ago and have only used it once. Most times when we travel we are going from point a to point b and we don't seem to take the time to "smell the roses". We need to do a trip like you just did and enjoy the great ole' USA. Thanks for your previous posts about your trip, really enjoyed reading them.

John,

Yes, we camp at a Corps of Engineers campground (Deer Lick Creek) in Tuscaloosa (on the Black Warrior River near Holt Lock and Dam) when we overnight in the pop-up for Alabama Home football games. They are basic (no sewer mostly) but adequate and in-expensive (our tax dollars at work). But they all usually have a dump station.

It's a shame Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon are not navigable waterways managed by the CoE or else the Fort would be a lot cheaper (but maybe not as nice). :rotfl2:

You can make ressies through recreation.gov but if you have to cancel or drop a date the fee is somewhat punitive. But it's a good find.

Maybe someday I can embark on an adventure like yours. Sounds wonderful. :woohoo:
