RV mattress suggestions?

We just upgraded our pop-up to a 2013 Keystone Passport 3220BH. We got a phenomenal deal and we LOVE it, but I must confess one disappointment: the queen mattress in the front bedroom. I put a thick, dense foam topper on it, but it's not enough. I think we might have to replace it before we take any extended trips - I don't think my back could take any more than three nights on it. Has anyone out there purchased a mattress for their RV that they recommend, or any suggestions for further enhancing what I have?

Measure your mattress first. Most likely it is a short queen and not a standard queen so you will need to find a similar sized replacement. Once you confirm the size as you can Google for a replacement. Camping world is the obvious first place to look but I'm sure there're other sellers out there that are more reasonably priced. If you really want to upgrade you can consider a Sleep Number bed, there is an RV edition. That is a planned upgrade for our new motorhome when the time comes.

Thanks Chris! I'll definitely measure it, I do think it is a short queen. It's fine for me, as I am convinced I am descended from Hobbits, but if DH were to ever get taller we'd be in trouble! It's a good thing at his age, he'll only be shrinking!

I don't know where you can purchase just the mattress, but we purchased a 2012 Forest River Palomino Gazelle travel trailer and it had the upgraded Serta Mattress in it. It is the short queen. This mattress is so comfortable. We absolutely love it.

Try a memory foam, they are great, we finally settled on a 12" one from wall mart. As previous poster stated, make sure what size you need. The one we got from wall mart was highly recomended in reviews and they were right, we also found a lot on Ebay...

We've purchased several trailers over the years, and are on our second MH now, and the first thing we do is replace the mattresses. They have to put the worst mattress they can find (and cheapest). Just a few months ago, we had to special order a "short" queen from a local mattress firm here.
We found one we liked in the store, then ordered one to our measurements (actually standard "short" queen) because they don't stock them.
Camping World does have them, but you pay an "arm & leg" for them, and they are not as good as the ones you can find to order locally. For one thing, you usually buy "sight unseen"
Even with our replacement, I still put a "high density" 3" memory foam topper that I bought at Sams Club. It is very high quality, and not like the ones you find in department stores. A very good price also.

We replaced ours by going to a local store that produces their own mattresses. We found the one we liked and ordered it to the size we needed. It was less than a serta with better quality

Exactly, one of our concerns - when you buy a mattress, you get to go to the store, give it a test drive! When you're paying the prices that you do see on camping world, you want to make sure you're getting a good product - It's too risky for me.

Buying a mattress custom from a mattress store sounds like a great option. I could actually lie down on it and try it out!

I also checked out the 12" memory foam mattress on walmart.com. Really good price! My only worry is that it does not specify a "queen short"; only a queen. I just have to get my butt out there with a measuring tape!lol

We have an air mattress in our coach queen sleep sofa and we love it. It is self inflating and you can adjust to your liking. It is not an number air mattress.

1) Most will work.
2) Get the best you can afford.
3) Makes a big difference to be restful.
4) Especially the day you must drive elsewhere.

NOTE: Just make sure you don't accidentally get a pea under the
mattress. My wife did and couldn't sleep at all, until I came along.

Lol...that brought me back to our first outing with our pop up, and my DH couldn't figure out WHY it wouldn't crank down...he had forgot to take the egg crates off! So, he had to crank it back up, take them off, pack them up, and then fold down the camper again.

Hmmm...bed in a box...I will have to check it out - thanks!!

Yes, do be sure and measure. My dh & I were not thinking and just went and bought a queen (from same store) and had it delivered and put in our MH and (Yes, you guessed) we had a mattress too long and extending past the foundation and no room to walk
Boy, did we feel stupid
Luckily, we were planning to get a new queen for our guest room (eventually) so were able to use it there.
Then we called to see if they would do a custom of that bed and they said they would, so the day was saved
The funny part was when they delivered the "short" queen and we told them we needed to first move the wrong one from the MH into the house, take the old from the house away, then put the right one (short queen) in the MH. They had to laugh when we told them what had happened.
So the "moral" to this story - we will in the future MEASURE!!
