RV in the 1500 loop?

Greetings all. Planning on bringing my wife and three girls to FW on Jan 31 for seven days. Because of our vacation scheduling (wife's a nurse and I'm the fuzz) we couldn't firm anything up until just now. I called and the only thing they have available is the tent/popup sites. We have a 32 foot RV with no slides. I made the reservation anyway and plan on continuing to call to upgrade. We stayed in the 300 loop two years ago, and the 500 loop last year. We haven't had a golf cart so preferred to stay in the loops between the sing-a-long and the Marina for convenience. We have also always ask to be near a comfort station, because we don't use the bathroom in the RV, or the water system. Being from the great white north, it's too much trouble because of the freezing.

As an aside, I had been mailed a promotional card from Disney, and got 15 percent off the booking. I was suprised since from lurking here for a couple of years this seems to be rare.

Anyway, while I was researching the 1500 loop, using Shan's cool googleearth thing (thanks again!) I saw some pictures of and the sites look big enough for my RV. In one of the pictures you can clearly see a huge 5th wheel in one of the tent sites. SOP says this is not allowed. 1500 is close enough to the sing a long and other stuff to be attractive, I can always ride the bus up to the marina if needed. Plus it's dang cheap, and on a public servants salary and gas prices going over 3 bucks, this will help. (What am I talking about, it's all going on the credit card anyway.)

So here's the questions. Is this allowed sometimes? Has anyone here been able to have an RV on a tent site? Opinions are welcomed!

First... I am soooooo jealous that you are escaping the frozen tundra of Minn-e-snow-tah during this seriously cold weather we are having.

Second... I would probably keep trying to upgrade. I have heard of others having an RV on a partial, but I don't recall anyone putting one on a tent/popup site. I could be wrong though and I am sure that someone else will be along with a more definitive answer.

Third... If I meet you in Rochester, will you take me with you??? I don't take up much room... ;)

Thanks for the reply Lisa. I'll ask the wife about bringing you with, but the odds are not good!

We have always gone in Jan/Feb. My mother winters at Ft. Myers Beach, so we follow up by spending a week with her. We think its WARM then. Last year we got to FW just after the cold snap when it snowed. I figured we would already have warm clothes with, it would just mean no lines at the rides. It was plenty warm otherwise.

I thought it was odd that there was a pic of a 5th wheel on that loop, that is what got me thinking.

Man, I can't answer your question, but I just wanted to extend my sympathy to those of you that far north. As cold as it is here right now, I can only imagine what y'all are dealing with. Not using your water system in the RV, really? Man, that sucks. Global warming is a B1+CH!

I can answer your question, as I went through the same dilemma. We have a Hybrid Shamrock 21ss (21ft) that opens to 26ft. Although it is a Hybrid and may pass under the Pop Up class, Disney classifies it as Travel Trailer. After all it is a Travel Trailer type. Disney will not allow you to put an RV (Travel Trailer, 5th Wheel or MH Class A, B or C) in either loop 2000 or 1500. I suggest you keep looking at reservations every day, several times a day, and you may run into someone else cancelling so you can upgrade to full hook-up, Premium or Preferred.

I looked for months and in the last two weeks I saw three cancellations for full hook-up, premium and preferred. I was able to upgrqade. If you cancel your cancellation Disney will charge you a fee for cancellation. Wait until the last minute and see if you can upgrade, if not, then you will have to cancel and pay fee. If you upgrade to another site Disney will wave the cancellation fee or re-reservation fee.

Since your RV would not be allowed in the 1500 loop, why don't you cancel the reservation. This would open that site for others and then you can just keep on checking every day.

Don't know about the fact that "Disney will not allow you to put an RV . . . " because there is currently a Class B in the 1500 loop. I have seen an occasional instance where there have been all types of RVs in the partial loops. In fact, there have been pictures posted with them. Although the guidelines state that they are not allowed, it also states that only one camper is allowed per site and numerous people break this rule all the time. But I do recommend to keep checking for upgrades.

If he cancel he will be charged a fee. If he can upgrade Disney will waive the cancellation fees.

I have to disagree about part of your response. I have seen Class B motorhomes in the 2000 loop many times. For those who are not familiar, Class B RVs are sometimes called "van campers" and are similar to van conversions but with all the bells and whistles (bathroom, sleeping, cooking facilities) just like a big RV.

In the photo below is a Class B on a site in the 2000 loop. Photo credit to FlaFortCampster who put together a very nice pictorial thread of the 1500 and 2000 loops.

When we planned on coming at Christmas, we requested a partial site in 2000 and despite informing them we had a motorhome, were able to make the reservation.

I don't know where you get your information from but Disney will NOT charge you a cancellation fee if you cancel more than 5 days prior to your trip on a room-only reservation. If you cancel at the last minute, you might be charged a fee depending on the circumstances.

Don't worry about it!! Keep the reservation. Try and upgrade if you can, but if you can't, go check in. If they are really worried about it, they will upgrade you on arrival, if not they will let you go to the partial. Be advised however, that it is more likely that you will be placed in 2000 when you book a partial. Simply for the main fact that there are 60 some sites in 2000 and only 21 in 1500.

First of all, welcome to the camping boards fugarwe!

You have gotten some conflicting answers here.

The campsite designations clearly state that Class A motorhomes cannot be accommodated in the partial hook up loops.

But, as others have already stated, on occasion you will see Class A's and C's , and travel trailers in the partial hook up loops.

In my opinion, showing up in a 32' Class A motorhome and expecting that you will be assigned to the 1500 loop is a bad idea.

I will post my specific comments below.

Since your RV would not be allowed in the 1500 loop, why don't you cancel the reservation. This would open that site for others and then you can just keep on checking every day.

I agree with this.

The Disney website says this about the partial hook up sites:

You are correct. As stated in the screen cap I posted above, van type campers (i.e. Class B's) are most definitely allowed in the partial hook up sites.

I don't agree with the don't worry about it part. There are a lot of sites on 1500 and 2000 which won't accommodate a 32' motorhome. If he shows up at a busy time, and there is no place to put him, that is a pretty big problem. And that's not Disney's problem, it would be the person who made the reservation for the wrong site category's problem.

I do agree with your point about the unlikelihood of being assigned to the 1500 loop. There are only 21 sites on the 1500 loop, but there are 69 on the 2000 loop. Plus, there are several sites on the 1500 loop which have obstructions which would prevent a 32' motorhome from fitting. It is way more likely that a Class A would be placed in the 2000 loop.

The bottom line, fugarwe, is that you have knowingly made a reservation for a level of site that is not supposed to accommodate your camping unit. That's just asking for trouble.

I called Reservation Center on 12/1 to canel my partial hook up and upgrade to Full hook up. The CM told me I will be charged a $50 fee for cancellation although my check-in date is 12/22, and I should just upgrade under the same reservation. Perhaps the information given to me was incorrect.

You were told some incorrect information. I often find myself juggling reservations, and I have never heard one thing about a cancellation fee as long as the cancellation is made at least 5 days before check-in.

Last year many of times we saw 5thrs, Travel trailers and big MH in the 2000 and 1500 loop. I’m looking for the pics to backup my statement. Over xmas last year there were 5 sites with big RV’s in the 2000 loop

Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. I asked for opinions, and am glad to have them all. I enjoy a good give and take discussion. I think much more is learned about the nuances of an issue when it gets hit from all angles.

Perhaps this is faulty reasoning, but this is why I made the reservation anyway:

1. I have Disney on speed dial on my cell, and will be calling in attempting to upgrade. I figured it would be way easier if I could call and ask to modify my rez then to have to be ready to answer all the questions about the six of us coming etc when making a new one.

2. Even if I don't get an upgrade, I'm coming to Disney that week. If they don't find me a spot (I'm not against moving more than once if I have to, remember, I don't hook up) then yes, it's my bad. I also have a super secret place I have parked for a night or two if need be while we use our three days of tickets, and then move onto the beach with my Mom.

3. I'm not the "If everything isn't perfect" type that will have this ruin my vacation. We'll have fun no matter what. I may be annoyed, but am going into this with eyes wide open and will appreciate anything I get.

I tried to expand the dates to two weeks to get a rez, but it was still full. I'm going to go online and try to expand it to three weeks and see what happens. I just got my reservation confirmation email, and she noted right on there that I have a 30 foot RV (I told her 32?) so I hope she doesn't get into trouble for making the rez if I can't upgrade.

I'd really rather be in 500 again. We may be bringing my 20 foot enclosed trailer and if we do, I'll be purchasing some golf carts down there to bring home. They are way cheaper down there and I can sell them up here and get one for free. But that's another thread, eh?

Perhaps you can look for shorter days to reserve. For example if you arrive on 12/22 and leave on 12/30, maybe you can look at reservations for full hook up or preferred between 12/22 to 12/25 and then keep the partial hook up you have for the remaining of your stay. Or vice versa, you can look for full hook-up for the last few days of your stay and keep the partial hook up for the first few days. Anyway, piece meal your reservations until you get through to a better site. Just an idea, a suggestion, just trying to help.

A couple years ago we were in the 2000 loop and watched a HUGE class A go by and wondered where he was going. We were taking a walk around the loop and lo and behold it was in a site. It was a tight squeeze and came all the way out to the road but he got it in. I don't know the details of why it was allowed in there but it was. It was funny because there was no room for him to sit but in front of it almost in the road.
