I'm driving a class "A" motor coach to Disney World with 9 family members and our family pet. Where are the best places for RV campground hook up?

Welcome to the DIS and the camping board, most everyone on this board would recommend Fort Wilderness, it's the BEST campground in the WORLD, (Only one in The "World";) )

There are numerous off site campgrounds, such as KOA, Tropical Palms, Secret lake, Encore, i will try and get some links and post them.

Will this be your first trip to Disney World??

Thanks Scott! Yes this is our first trip to Disney World. We are taking our 2 grand kids and their parents.

PS: I have located the Fort Wilderness web page and I am in the process of comparing the cost vs benefits of hooking up at Fort Wilderness or one of the RV parks in Kissimmee, which are much less costly

You can easily find RV parks in the Orlando area that are less expensive. But there is no other RV park in the world like Fort Wilderness. If you are picturing rows of RVs, an office and a swimming pool.... Well, that's not FW. You could spend a week at FW and never go to the theme parks and still not do everything there is to do. Here are some of the FW features:

beach
boat rental
hiking/biking trails
bike rental
canoe rental
golf cart rental
trading posts
nightly campfire/entertainment/movie
Hoop-de-Doo dinner show
bus service around the campground and to the parks
horseback riding
nightly hayride
petting farm
fishing
buffet restaurant
pizza restaurant and tavern
Mickey's backyard BBQ
swimming pools
River Country water park
nightly electrical water pageant

I'm sure I've left some out. Give FW a try. Those grandkids will love it.

I strongly recommend that you stay at FW...I have also traveled with a few generations. IT works out wonderful when your older family members get tired and they can hop on a bus, or boat and go back to the camp site for a needed rest without interfering with the rest of the family fun. You do not have that much flexiblity with other campgrounds in the area. The cost of FW is more, but WORTH it. The sites are great, lots of nature and good size sites. You will need to have reservations in advance and they only have so many pet loops available so let them know ahead of time. I think your pet is required to have rabies and bordrtella vaccines. (things might have changed) but it is just something to think about. HAVE FUN.

Thanks Wildernessfamily!
Your comments about pet requirements were very helpful. We are checking with our vet to make sure our little Schnauzer has all required shots.
Cal

PS: I had not thought of the advantage of being able to return to the campsite when we tire of trying to keep up with our children & grandchildren.

I wouldn't stay anywhere EXCEPT onsite whether it be at the campground or resorts!!! Your guests can come and go as they please by using the transportation at Disney.

Bring poochy. YOu can go back during the day and let he/her out (as long as you have a hardsided RV). I always tell people our dog went to Disney World too! :) :)

BTW, we were never asked for her shot records. Actually, we never have anywhere except the kennels. Right now, she can't have her shots due to a liver problem. I have a letter from the vet stating that as well. She's only about 4 mos overdue anyway and they last much longer than that. Matter of fact, I think that's what caused her autoimmune problem (meds for that caused extensive liver damage). She seems to be recovering from the liver damage. We almost lost her in January.

Anyway, sorry for the deviating from the subject... You'll really enjoy staying on Disney property. Look at my website for campground photos

BTW, you can see a skinny version of our dog, Annie, in one of the photos. She had lost a tremendous amount of fur due to coming of some meds.

WOW, Tinkerbellrules!
Six Degrees of Seperation! We just had our beloved miniature Schnauzer, Cocoa, put to sleep. Her death was caused by autoimmune anemia brought on by her shots. Our Vet did not diagnose her correctly and she suffered almost a month before we sought to mercifully put her to sleep. Cocoa was a faithful and loving part of our family for more than 10 years. My wife, second Schnauzer Pepper, and I are still recovering from her loss.

Pepper also has a problem taking the shots. He has had reactions, almost causing his death, the past 2 trips to the Vet. Our breeder and several Vets have advised us not to give Pepper the shots again.

Thanks for your input.

Hay Cal,

There may be better rates than they list on the web sight depending on when your going. I was quoted 39.00 per night for Aug. Anyway it may be worth the call to help you decide.

Cal: I'm so very sorry to hear about Cocoa. It is so hard to lose a pet. People without them don't understand. My daughter just had her 3 yr old gerbil die a couple weeks ago. Even I cried. It was so sad. Gerbie died in her hands (daughter is 9). She's so brave and held her until she died. Then we made her a little casket complete with paper towels for blankets and flowers in it. We buried her in a funeral like way. Even said a prayer. My husband was even crying! I guess it was a way to prepare for other deaths, no matter how "small" of a incident it was.

Anyway, Annie was a skin problem called pemphigus (there are 4 different ones). She has an allergist, an internist as well as her "real" vet. All agreed on not giving her the vaccines. She came from a humane society and I know they always give them shots no matter what the owner states. She had two seizures the first summer, then developed the pemphigus in the fall of 1999. After our trip to WDW last fall, we started noticing changes in her, but not significant. One day around Christmas, she urined on the carpet in front of us. Not like her at all! We noticed an odd smell as well as an odd color (orange-like). The allergist referred her to an internist after doing a urine test and blood work. One morning she wouldn't get up when I came down to see her. I thought for sure that was it. The internist ran blood work, urine, ultrasound and liver biopsy. She said it really didn't look good for Annie, but wanted to try some meds. We really struggled with this due to the cost. Her meds and liver disease diet food is $200/mo without vet bills. But, she seems to be doing well. People don't even know she's sick. We're going in on Friday for her two month check and praying everything is okay. She had significant liver damage, but the liver can regenerate itself sometimes. So far, so good. She's such a sweetheart. Everyone loves her. Course, she's a collie and everyone loves a Lassie ;)

Hi there Cal,

following up on Disneycrazymom's suggestion.....there are frequent discounts that aren't well publicized for the FW campground. I called reservations and asked about discounts a few months ago, they asked for a few details and found that I qualified (because of where I live, when I wanted to go to DW and what time of year I was calling....) for a substantial discount. Those things combined with Disney club membership and/or annual passes (depending on the length of your stay and/or if you want to return in the next year) may be worth the discount on a campsite.

good luck and enjoy your research for the best "deal" for you and your family.
