OK, so we made our first trip to the Fort last Jan/Feb and fell in love with it. The only thing we hated was towing down our travel trailer 1700 miles from MN.
With 7 kids the car can get a bit cramped. When we got back we said enough of that and sold the travel trailer and have now decided in favor of buying a Motor Home so that we can keep up our Disney addiction. Up until our Fort trip we had been looking at buying into DVC, but found that the camping aspect and packing the trailer for weeks and weeks in advance helped to stave off the shakes in anticipation of the trip.

So having never purchased anything like a motor home before I am wondering what everyones experience with financing one are?

We are looking for a Gas class A, probably topping out in the $50,000 range. Of course cheaper is better but also not looking to be stranded on the side of the road in the middle of TN with 7 kids.

Should we be looking at financing through a dealer or are their better places that specialize in this sort of financing? What is the typical down payment required and the terms, I have seen everything from 5 to 10 to 15 years.

I am just trying to educate myself on the process as much as I can before we get to deep into looking.

We have a gas class A motor home which is a 2003 Fleetwood Flair with 2 slides. We purchased it in 2006 for 1/2 the price of it new! Ours has a V10 motor and we get about 8 miles to the gallon on a trip. Our trip from Maine to Disney and back costs us just under $1500 in gas.

We just refinanced it through our credit union and got it at 5.9% so be sure to look around for interest rates. Remember that the dealer will find you financing but it's not always the best deal. They get a kick back on getting those loans for the banks.

To keep it affordable for most people, they will do up to 15yrs financing. The great thing about the motor home is that the interest paid is tax deductible just like your home mortgage!

We have enjoyed ours very much. There are photos of it posted on the thread here call "Back Home".

Shop around for a loan. The dealer offered the best rate at the time when we bought our motorhome. Do the math Most of the people I know with 15 year loans are upside down owing more then their rig is worth.

If you have not yet joined iRV2 you must. You can ask and read everything you need to know. Study sales on ebay, I posted on iRV2 members experience buying on ebay and response was 90% positave. We are on our 4 th class A coach and love the class A's. All mfgs have problem so you don't need to pay big bucks. Floor plan is the most important thing to look for.

We have always financed through our credit union. Always a good deal and easy to deal with. We have also always bought from individuals, although not always a good deal as we found out later. Our current one came off ebay and has served us well. Check out http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/ for some suggestions. They have a tremendous inventory and are well thought of. Concur with joining irv2.com. Great group of concerned campers of all income levels.

Thank you all for your suggestions I will keep an eye on those websites.

SMACCA1956, great pics of your RV and tent setup. You have what we are going for. Right down to the golf cart. I was just at the store last weekend looking at that exact same tent.

We are between the quickset one like you have or the coleman 9 person family tent. At target. I would post the link but can't because I am a new member.

Have not made up our minds yet on which way to go.

We absolutely loved that tent for set up. We had no problems with leakage although we did seal the seams to be sure and had very little rain while there. It only takes about 10 mins to set up and tear down! Fit back in the bag with no problem either! Good luck! :cool1:

If you live near the twin cities go to wings financial. Its a credit union and I financed my RV for 3.9%. They are easy to work with too.

Just my .02

I am in MN too and we made the same choice 2 years ago. Sold the 5th wheel and went to a class A. Love it.
