We belong to Outdoor World and anytime we stay at one of their parks, checking in means you give them your membership card and then go pick out a site somewhere. If you're lucky, the office staff can tell you what sites are open, but if they're really busy and the park is almost full, you just have to drive around and ask if a site is occupied or not. Once you've found a site, you return to the registration building and let them know where you are.

Does checking in at Ft. Wilderness work like this? Or are you already assigned a site and you just go there and set up?

Thanks - any info in advance is appreciated. We are so looking forward to being there for Christmas 2005. We'll be driving down from PA, and staying overnight so we aren't too tired when we arrive at the World.

Check-in is 1:00PM. After you enter on to FW grounds you will drive up to the security shack where you will have to give your name and sometimes need a form of ID and resi. paperwork. After she/he checks you off you will drive ahead to the check-in plaza if you have a RV or you will have to make a right to get to the small lot to park if you were to be staying in a cabin. If in a cabin you would then go inside the OUTPOST building and check-in.

For RVers, once at the Plaza you will give them your info and they will complete the paperwork and give you your site along with a map showing you where your site is plus you will get facts and info paperwork. The gate will open and you will drive slowly to your site, it seems like forever as the anticipation builds, look at the site and decide how to get your rig into it and if there is a problem you can use a phone at the loop comfort station to call the Outpost office about getting another site. As long as there are open sites you should be able to get another site.

If you arrive before the official check-in time and before 8:00AM you will just pull up to the Plaza after getting past security, park and go inside the Outpost and check-in. If your site is available you will be able to go to it and if not then you should be told to park your RV in the BIG LOT where you can relax or start your stay by using the bus system to get to the parks. Once in the Big Lot you can call back to the Outpost every so often to find out if your site became available.

If you get there after 8:00AM they will check you in at the Plaza and depending on site availability the procedure mentioned above will be followed.

Note: If you check in early and your site is not available you can ask if there is another site that IS available that meets your RV needs and if so you can go to it.

Hope this helped.

John
