Next Monday, April 29th, we have some extra time in the la area and we thought we would go to Disneyland until our flight. Our flight leaves LAX at 8 PM and we need to return a car. It is a domestic flight. When is a good time to leave Disneyland? 5 PM?

LA rush hour is unlike anything I've ever experienced, and I'm a native New Yorker who drives in heavy traffic all the time. Just to be extra safe, and since you also have to return a rental car, I'd probably leave around 4:00.

Plan for at least an hour of driving time plus 30 minutes to return the car and actually get to the terminal using a shuttle. Go backwards from there as to what time you are comfortable with arriving at the airport.

A good idea is to go on Google maps or Waze TOMORROW and the rest of this week (don't do it today as since its Easter/Passover Monday, some people will be off work) at 5pm CA time and see what the estimated time is for the trip, just to get an idea of traffic patterns.

If I had to do this I'd be leaving at least by 4pm for peace of mind. You can grab dinner after TSA in LAX if all goes well and you have extra time. An hour to get to LAX in heavy traffic + 30 mins for extra delays + 30 mins car return --> arrive at terminal 2 hours before flight. Heck, it's 9am on Easter Monday and the drive from DLR to LAX is currently an hour on google maps...

for context, my international flight departs at 7.30pm, and I have Supper Shuttle booked to pick me up at 3pm. I need to check in 3 hours before my flight = 4.30pm, which gives me 90 minutes approx to get to LAX.

LAX is also in the midst of tremendous construction which means that traffic snarls worse than it used to. It can also mean the rental car shuttles can take an awfully long time to get to dropping you off at the terminal (especially depending on which airline you're flying). I agree with previous posters who recommended leaving Disneyland no later than 4pm.
