January 3rd in a freak accident I ruputed my Achilles tendon. Surgery on January 7th. ZERO weight bearing for 12, long, long months. I live on a farm, take dance classes and was headed to WDW for the half marathon when this hit.

Sigh.

Anyone else on the list been through this?

I found two Achilles rupture blog sites and they upset me to the point I cried and threw up all night.

I keep praying that somehow Ultimate Good will be seen through all of this.

I have no experience with a ruptured Achilles, but I do with being non weight bearing for a long time. I found a special crutch that I was able to use, that allowed me to be more mobile than I was with a regular crutch. It was called a hands free crutch. It had a pad that I kneeled on like with a knee walker, but it had a pole that strapped to my leg in three different places and had a foot on it. Kind of like a pirates leg. I was able to do almost anything that I could when walking.

IF you can get one, it could make rehabilitation better for you. I know it did for me.

Here is a website about it:http://www.iwalkfreerental.com/

First...Ouch!!!:scared:

Second, I am sorry you have to deal with this. Luckily there are some new walkers out there..as the pp mentioned to help you out and keep you mobile. The one I was thinking of when I read your post was the Knee walker. Check out knee walker . Com ( take out spaces)

Saw one person with one at DL not too long ago. Spoke to them while in line and they loved it! :scratchin

My oldest son tore his achilles tendon while doing flying side kicks a week before he tested for black belt in 4th grade. It took a good two years for his to heal. They gave him a 50/50 chance of re-injuring it. He played soccer and ran cross country in 7th thru 9th grades, for his junior and senior years in high school he played tackle football.
