Hey everyone,
I'm staying at the Port Orleans French Quarter and then doing the 5 night Bahama cruise on the Dream in a little over a week.
And I'm training for the Disneyland 1/2 marathon.

I should be running 11 miles on Saturday or Sunday while at DW.
I know the FQ has a path, but it's not very long.
Is there another place I could run that would give me a longer path.
Keep in mind I won't have a car.
And I'd like to get this out of they way in the early morning due to the heat and humidity!

And then on one of the days we are at Castaway Cay I should be running a 15K (9.9 miles).
I have run the 5K on the island before.
But I'm wondering if I could talk the cast member into doing the loop 3 times with me?
Has anyone ever done this?
Or have any suggestions?
I know I could just use the treadmill on the ship or run many, many laps on the running/walking deck, but it would be much more fun to run on the island.

Thanks!

P.S. I'll post the 2nd part over in the cruise forum also.

Ok so the port orleans area is one of my favorites to run, its gorgeous especially before the sun rises. Yes, the path if you do it tip to tail is about a mile, and you can also add in the parking lot loop. All together I think you get get in about 3.5 miles without If you're feeling brave (aka stupid like me) one morning, you can make it down to saratoga springs/downtown disney - but thats not a very safe route.

at only a mile long you'd have to go up and down a heck of alot to get to 11 miles. hmm...what about going over to the epcot resort area and running around there? there are a few different loops you can do. last year i did 5 or 6 miles maybe 4 of the 7 mornings i was there. you can do this outside loop and pass the front of the beach club, boardwalk, swan and dolphin and you'll see tower of terror at the end of the one street too. i would do that 2 or three times. it's no 11 miles but at least the loop is longer! plus you could go around the lake there and run on the boardwalk or to/from epcot and DHS.

good luck and have fun. stay hydrated!!

This is what I was going to suggest.

I agree about the Epcot areas. They are a lot of great running areas over there that you can do short loops or long loops depending on the path you choose and what not. It's my favorite place to run when I'm on property.

You can run to DTD without hitting the roadways.

It does require running on a small little maintenance road between POR and OKW. This is a 10.5 mile adder to anything you get in POR. You can go longer by running the outer edge of the DTD parking lot or shorter

Thanks for the route.
Since I've only taken the busses around DW, I'm somewhat confused.
Are these mainly streets?
The mile markers are a little out of order so how do I do the beginning of the run through mile 4?
This looks like it will work well.
How early can I get out there and get this done?

First, oops, I had a rogue loop pop onto the map... look again.

Mostly this is pathways, sidewalks and resort drives. Put the map options mode on Satellite or Open Street for a more detailed view of where you are going.

The mile markers may be a little confusing. The loop is an out and back so markers can look out of order. Zoom in to see the individual lines. Also, the general path is to Run from POR to the cast member entrance of OKW. From there follow the OKW drive out and back to the right then continue to the resort spine drive (Peninsular Dr). At the Tutrtle Pond Road turn right and follow past the pool at the end. You will now be on a golf cart like trail . You may want to hop back onto the resort road where the trail seems to put resort guests back onto resort roads or just continue on if early. From here you follow the 'nature trail' to DTD. I made a loop through the Treehouse Villas (the point where the path hops over the creek and back). Then a loop through DTD and then SSR and return.

Use this as an idea. Really there are so many variations on the theme that you can build a huge loop or keep it minimal.

When I stay there in late fall I usually get out around 3-4 am. I have stopped and talked with Security a couple times; usually when I see them circling back and forth through the resort keeping tabs on me.. I find they are curious but not overly concerned. I urge a little caution on the nature trail from OKW to DTD. There is some wildlife along the trail but the real concern are golf course workers. Most all mowers and carts have lights but they are not looking for you - so look for them.

Thanks. I'll give this a try. I've printed it out to follow. :cool1:

Oh, I meant to add that you most likely will not be able to talk the cruise cast member into a couple extra loops as they have duties starting just after their 5k work. After you finish the 5k, make sure the cast member knows you finished and then hook a couple extra loops. By the time you finish the first 5k disembarking have begun so there is no reason to not be able to continue. One word of caution. you are on roads shared by trams so you need to keep aware of that traffic.

Have fun and hydrate

Coach Charles,
Thanks for the advice on the DW run.
I did it this morning. But I was a little directionally challenged so I got a little lost and ended up running an extra mile. I left at 6:30am and started sweating the minute I stepped out the door.
It was a beautiful run. Loved going through Downtown Disney with nobody but the workers getting it all shined up.
Thanks again!:cool1:

Disfan11, it must have been a great space to run. Can't wait to hear back about your Castaway Cay experience, I might be wanting to do 10k on one of my cruises in October.
