Running Wheelchair Rental

Hi everyone
We are travelling from Ireland in October for the Run Disney Wine and Dine Weekend. I will be running the 5,10 and 21k races while my two children had planned to run the 5k with me. My youngest son is disabled but we had hoped he would be well enough to run / walk the 5k. Its now looking likely that he will be unable to walk or run this distance.

There is a wheelchair option, but the wheelchair needs to be a running wheelchair. We don’t have one of those and just have his ‘regular’ wheelchair.

Would anyone know where I might be able to hire one in the Orlando area?

I don’t have answers for you, but you might ask on the runDisney forum too. Between this forum and that, I hope someone offers a solution!

I think this will be challenging. If runDisney doesn't have a good answer then you may have to call various mobility companies on your own in Orlando and such to find one. You may get a lead calling these mobility companies to find one. Most people probably own their running wheelchair.

You could possibly rent one in Ireland and transport it but that sounds complicated.

If you have the extra help then maybe your son could enjoy a park while you do your run. He may be happier doing a park.

My understanding is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be a running wheelchair if your doing a push duo. But it has to have a seatbelt and he has to wear a helmet. Contact run disney AWD division and they can clarify the requirements for you.
