Hey Lynn, I have some catching up to do. Your January trip will be here before you know it. I have two quick favors to ask of you, I remember reading that you and Time had taken a trip to NYC and visited the WOD store, with it closing at the end of the year, I have made plans to go up quick next month and was just wondering if you could send me the link to where you talk about NYC, just so I can get some ideas. Also I know you are a huge TSM fan, would you mind posting your pictures here, I can't wait to ride the ride, I am a huge Toy Story fan, very excited for the third one to come out in June. Hi Jenn! Ahh I know! I think in my May TR, this past May, I mentioned my NYC plans and posted some pictures.

TSM is the best!! Will your next trip be the first time you get to go on??? I will post some pics for you.

Gosh, Lynn I just don't know!! But I'm going to be there to have a talk with them on Sunday and tell them to get the lead in the division! Oh and I must confess...during *most* of the first 6 games (I think the last 4), I drove down a road we have here called Broncos parkway. Now, I didn't think it was a superstitious luck thing since I didn't the first two games so I haven't done it the last 3 games...but now I'm going to start doing it every Sunday again!! We need to beat the Chargers!!

Hey! Tim and I want to get a zoom lens for our canon rebel xs for our trip. Oh and I need to know more about the nifty fifty lens. Is that the one that takes awesome photos in Pirates, HM, and all the dark rides? What else can you do with the lens?

I know you saw my response over on the Photo Board, so I won't duplicate all of it here---but just wanted to let you know that I responded back on dark ride settings and provided a link for a "How to Shoot: Dark Rides" thread that had been started.

In the meantime, here are a few shots I took during our trip in October that you should be able to replicate with the "nifty fifty" even though I used my "dirty thirty" when I took these. The 50mm lens will also be good for indoor shots without a flash, like if you wanted to take food porn pictures or just shots of Tim inside without having that ghostly washed out look that you get from your pop-up flash.

As long as you don't expect to be getting fantastic shots of Madame Leota, the hitchhiking ghosts or basically anything on Peter Pan, you should be able to get some great shots with the Canon 50mm f/1.8. Learn to zoom with your feet" and you'll have a great time using it in the daylight too.

Okay, so this is going to be a dumb question. What makes the nifty fifty lens take pictures like that? What is so special about the lens and why is it so cheap?

Hmmmm, it's cheap just because....it is. The standard 50mm lens is something that is made in a lot of mounts for different brands (i.e. Canon, Nikon, etc.) and since it's a prime lens (it doesn't zoom from one focal length to another), it's probably cheaper to manufacture.

Now, the lens takes pictures like that because it has a larger aperture (the smaller the f/# on the lens, the more open the aperture). The larger aperture allows you to isolate a subject by providing a shallow depth of field (but also makes it that much more important to make sure you get your focus exactly where you want it---like on Tim's face rather than his shirt). If you are shooting at f/1.8 and were to get Tim's shirt rather than his face, his face in the resulting picture wouldn't look very sharp. If you were to use your kit lens "stopped down" to f/8 or so, the resulting picture would look very similar to the nifty fifty at f/8---everything in the picture would be clear and in focus. As far as why you can get better dark ride pictures, like I said---the lens has a larger opening, which lets in more light. The more light you have, the shorter amount of time your shutter has to be open, resulting in less chance of a blurry picture.

If that doesn't make any sense, there is a really great book you can read that's short, full of pictures and easy to understand---you can probably read most of the really important stuff on the way to Disney. It's called Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. The more reading you do, the more it'll all make sense and you'll be giving others on the Photo Board advice rather than asking for it.

If I can find pictures to demonstrate the difference your aperture makes, I'll edit to post a link or the pictures.

Edited to add: Here is a link to a good demonstration. In all of the photos, the person posting the shots is focusing on the center lego guy. You will notice that at f/2.8 the guys in the front and back of the line are blurry. At f/22, all of the lego guys are nice and crisp. That demonstrates the difference between a shallow and deep depth of field.

Well we are 43 days away! YAY! I don't have class today, so I figured I would post our plans. Some things have changed like a couple ADRs. Oh, and our friend Matt who is coming down for a couple days, broke up with his GF, so she is no longer coming. It's all good though. Matt is okay.

Running for the half is going well! I'm so ready for it!!! Can't wait.

School is great!! This semester is almost done. I'm doing well in all of my classes. I registered for my Spring classes. I'm taking Educational Psychology, another math, History, and English. In the summer I'm going to take some classes as well. I love summer classes.

Oh and guess what? I have a new love for Math and I'm thinking about teaching it. I never thought I would even think about teaching it. I never liked it when I was younger, but now I love it!!! I have thought about Special Ed ( still thinking about it), but I can see myself teaching Math. Math, Science, and Special Ed is where the jobs are right now in teaching. I would love to teach elementary, but I want to have as many job opportunities as possible, so I think I'm going to get certified K-12, like my adviser advised me to. Oh, and I love Psychology. I talked to my Psych teacher about becoming a counselor in a school. She told me to major in Education and minor in Psych, get my bachelors in Ed, and get my masters in Psych. Something else to think about.


Okay, so on with the plans!

DAY 1!​

Our flight is at 7:10 AM, so we should arrive at MCO a little after 9. After we check in, we will be going straight to the AK and heading to lunch at Yak & Yeti! We have never been there, so I'm excited.

After lunch, we will go ride some rides, check out Camp Minnie & Mickey to see the characters dressed in their holiday costumes, watch the 3 PM parade, then see Finding Nemo. I have never seen the show. I'm not sure if we will do these things in this order, but they are the plans. The park closes at 5. I think we will head back to the resort before the park closes to get ready for dinner. Our dinner is at Jiko that night.

After dinner, we will be heading to the MK!! YAY! The park is open until 12 or 1 AM. Wishes is at 10 I believe. I cannot wait to ride Space Mountain!!! We have to ride Splash because it's going to be closed Jan 3. Hopefully it won't be that cold, lol.

Day 1 sounds great! I think you will like the Yak & Yeti. I thought the food was really good. I don't think we got any entrees but split a couple appetizers. It was yummy!

I'm going to see New Moon tomorrow afternoon with my sis. I looked at some of the reviews and it got ripped apart. Ah well, I still have to see it!
