Running the 2006 Marathon?

Hello,

My husband and I are coming from the UK (I'm American, he's English). We just wanted to connect with others running in 2006.

I also had few questions:

Any repeaters out there? Where did you stay last year? Where are you staying this year? If you are running for the first time this year where are you staying? I have never been to WDW, so I am having a hard time choosing where to stay. We are looking at the YC and WL, but all the deluxe resorts look good. Since we are traveling without kids we thought we would splurge a bit. Now the Swan/Dolphin looks like choice as well....what to do!

We have chosen to stay onsite because we heard it could be a mess getting in on race day. If you have stayed offsite for previous races did you experience terrible traffic coming into the park?

Thanks and hope to connect with you all!

Hi Tonya,

Welcome to WISH & the DIS boards.

I did the 1/2 this year and I'm doing the 1/2 again in 2006. I stayed at the Caribbean Beach this year. While I loved the hotel, it was too large and had too many internal bus stops. I will probably stay at a value resort this year. The bus shedules ran good this year and we basically just went outside to a waiting bus that transported us to the parking lot at EPCOT. There were major traffic issues, so I'm not sure I'd want to stay offsite. The YC might be easier since it's so close to EPCOT. I'm even thinking of looking at the Swan & Dolphin. I'm not sure yet.

The last couple pages we've been talking bout hotels. I'm a newbie to the marathon world, so I don't really know what it will be like. If you're looking at the deluxes, I've heard it's really nice to stay at a monorail resort for the race(Contemporary, Grand Floridian or Polynesian).

Hi Tonya!
Glad you're coming stateside for the race. I have done it two years in a row and definitely think you are making a good choice staying onsite. We stayed at Carribean Beach last year too and I liked it a lot but if you can afford a deluxe then go for it. The buses will run from each resort on race day. I think they are fun to ride b/c everyone is so excited...even at 3:45am. Yes you read right, that's what time you have to catch the bus. But it's worth it not to have to fight traffic and to not have to hunt down your car after you're done.

Come hang out with us on the marathon training tread.

Hi Tonya! Hope to see you on our Marathon training threads! It will be great to hear from you as you are training.

I don't think you can go wrong with any choice you make as long as you can stay on site. The busses are set up to get you to the race for those staying on site. I stayed at BWV and we managed ok. DH had some issues with getting to the MK to see me, but he did make it.
