Getting fitted makes all the difference! Love my Hoka Clifton's!

I also use Clifton 3s and since its been my favorite Hoka so far I'm going to buy another pair with a nice discount now that the Clifton 4s are out.The Hoka brand overall being lightweight shoes with maximum cushioning are going to appeal to me but as others have said its an individual thing.When I put my foot into a shoe I pretty much know if its going to work for me or its not.For example I know many people use Asics and about 80% of the Asics I've tried on just feel uncomfortable to me.Before I started using the Hokas I was using Skechers for the same reason I like Hokas,lightweight,wide and good cushioning.Skechers being cheaper wore out faster and lately the models haven't been as appealing as they used to be but I really liked the Go Run Ultras I used for awhile.

I am a Nike Pegasus guy - have been for more than 20 years. I have a wide foot, so the last 2 models just didn't work for me because the toe box just got too narrow and they did not come in wide. The 34 is out and it comes in a wide. I got my first pair last week and they are going to work out well for me, so I am back on the Nike band wagon.

In the interim I ran in Brooks Adrenaline. They were okay, but the arches are a touch too high for my feet.

I was a Pegasus person for a decade, I ran a half with Under Armour Gemini 2's and then a full with UA Charged Bandits (2). The Bandit is called the Pegasus killer, internally. I'm a fan, cost efficient too. $99.99. I liked the Gemini 2 as well but they sort of screwed with it for the 3rd version and it's not nearly as good, imo. Probably why that one is discounted and the Gemini 2 is still selling at full price well over a year after debut.

I was all Nike until I got fitted prior to my first half in 2012. Now I'm a Brooks gal 100%. So much of an improvement. Just got my newest pair of Ghosts and I can't wait to break them in for my 2018 races

Im currently running in Asics GEL-Contend 4 and I love them. I have improved so much more since I switched from Nikes to my Asics. they are wider which is good since I have wide feet.

1st, they come in wide, so that is an improvement. The models in between got very narrow. The sole is less flexible, but the shoe feels more sturdy. But the biggest change since back then is the air "bubble" in the mid-foot area. It doesn't bother me one way or the other, but some people hate it.

Just got my newest pair of Ghosts...

I'm a big fan of Brooks Ghost. I just opened a new pair of 9s this week. This is my 5th pair of 9s, with too many to remember of previous models. I've taken them out of the box and done 12 miles without an issue.

I have 2 more pair of 9s stashed in the closet before I make the switch to the 10.

I switched to wide a couple of years ago to get a little more wiggle room.

It's interesting, among my group of running friends, about half are particular about their shoes. We are injury prone and even slight changes in a running shoe can cause pain or problems. The other half seem to be able to run in most anything. They can just switch willy nilly and it's no problem. I'm in the "slight changes = big problems" group unfortunately.

I've found I'm in that "run in anything" group. I just buy whatever shoes are on sale and have cool colors. I've tried all the big brands, and they pretty much feel the same to me. In 10K miles since I started keeping a log 4.5 years ago, I've never had a foot issue. I think a lot of it is the stride - my stride is fairly short, and I tend to land on my forefoot, so my impact is fairly minimal.

I got fitted at Fit 2 Run in Disney Springs on our last trip. I came home with a pair of Saucony Hurricanes that I like well enough, but after some mileage I also purchased a pair of more neutral shoes, the Hoka Tracers online. The wear pattern indicates that the Hurricanes are a little too much of a support shoe for me.

When I started running about 14 months ago, I was wearing an older pair of Brooks Dyads. Shin splints caused me to go get a new pair, and the local running shop immediately suggested Saucony Echelons.

The Echelons immediately caused the shin splints to go away, and they've felt GREAT, but the inside of the shoes(and not even the insole, but back by the heel) started tearing apart and coming undone. It wasn't affecting my runs in them, so I kept wearing them, but it was annoying and disappointing.

Decided it was time to switch shoes anyway, since I had seen that most active runners get new shoes annually(is that true?), so I went back to that same run/walk shop and they suggested going back to Dyads. I'm not worried about shin splints this time because I plan on wearing the Dyads ONLY for running, whereas I was wearing my old Dyads every day for everything.

Plus, I'm 80 pounds lighter now, so that has helped with the pain as well.

I go through about 4-5 pairs of running shoes each year. Training shoes usually last for about 300-500 miles depending on shoe type and runner type.

I am a part of the cult following of Brooks Ghosts. But, I def went to a running store and had them analyze everything and that’s what they put me in. I do like racing in Nike frees, but brooks for training.

I changed to Glycerins then again they did something to the toe box for 2016. I ended up with my first pair of New Balance 1080 and never tried another shoe again. I need to retire a pair of shoes so maybe I'll give the Ghosts another look.

Those were the ghost 6s, right? They were my favorite. I may have bought like 3 pairs of them and just continued to use them the last few years...
I have a newer pair now, and I like them. But you’re right. The 7s and 8s were BAD.

I’ve been a Pegasus owner for a while now but I’m intrigued by the super expensive Vaporfly 4. Are there any runners who’ve tried these shoes? I’m also planning on going to my local shoe store and trying on the On Cloudflow shoes.

As everyone else has said, go get fitted. I was wondering why I was always getting injuries early on in my training program, then someone told me I might be wearing the wrong shoes. Turns out I was wearing shoes that were actually a full size too small, and shoes that were for neutral runners when in fact I over-pronated a decent amount. I haven't had any injury problems since (knock on wood).
