My DH is a runner currently training for the Boston Marathon. I worry when he runs alone and wondered if any knows a device that he could wear so I can track him?
Obviously he doesn't want to run with a bulky cell phone. He does wear a Foreman Garmin GPS but I don't think I can track him with it.
Any suggestions? He won't let me microchip him either LOL

He should carry some ID. We had a jogger hit and killed while here on business this summer and it took 3 days for the police to figure out who he was.

Wow.
Dh fell in the street once and it really scared me when he came home cut and bruised.
Maybe I can sew ID in his running gear.

They make shoe tags for runners that are small and metal (sort of like a dog tag that someone in the military wears) and you put your laces through them, so that you have ID On you when you run.

That might be something he would do. Thanks.
I will also look into the ipod idea. He currently has a mp3 player he wears running.
He tells me his route and approximately how long he will be running.
A lot of times he runs along the canal path and that is not a place I can get to easily to find him if something happened.

I think the shoe tags etc. are called RoadID. I bought my DH these last year for his b-day. It does make me feel a bit better but it does not track him in anyway.

My dh is a runner and wears this:

My kids have the bracelets, too. They wear them at WDW and other places.

He also has some blinking lights and a reflective vest that he wears when it's dark.

My husband carries his cell phone when he runs. Unless his cell phone is ancient, it really shouldn't weigh more than an energy bar does.

DH used to think his cell was too bothersome, until he twisted his ankle on a lonely stretch of road with no payphones....

Believe me, I have tried to get him to carry the cell phone but he refuses.

Hello!

Try this: http://www.roadid.com/

My DH is an avid runner and marathoner. He likes this one because you can thread your ChampionChip through it and use it in a race. (Nice because he generally forgets to fill out the "In Case of Emergency" stuff on the back of the race numbers...)

You can't track him with it but it would help you in the event someone has to contact you in an emergency.

I do believe they are making children's shoes now with gps tracking in them. You might want to google that and see if they are doing it for adults. My DH usually at least tells me where he is going so I always have a general idea of his route.

Good luck to you and good luck to your DH in the Boston Marathon!!!

Tracy

Thanks for that website and for the good luck!
The fact that the ID is on his favorite shoes might make him go for it.
If Saucony had GPS he would wear them:thumbsup2
