For years this has been a common situation for anyone who arrives later than mid-morning. You can be waitlisted for a unit to be returned, and get a wheelchair (if available, but those are less likely to run out). This is one of the reasons why it's recommended to rent from an offsite vendor.

It is happening more frequently everywhere now, in and out of the parks, as many of the ECVs are dying and can't be replaced or repaired due to supply chain issues.

we saw plenty of angry guest I was lucky enough to have somebody who could push my wheelchair until an ecv became available, but i don't think they know how to gauge crowds since pandemic as they said they are ordered 3rd party offsite

It honestly is best to rent from offsite vendors, such as Gold Mobility, then you also have it at your resort and never have to worry about the parks running out, not to mention they are cheaper than in park rentals.

With my in-laws, we had this issue one day, and it was probably the better part of 10 years ago. They rented an EV in the morning, stayed till mid-afternoon. Then we park hopped, took our receipt to get one at the next park. They had none.

Called an offsite vendor, and one was waiting at the hotel for us when we got back. The bellhop showed my MiL how to use it.

Worked out great. Had it for the remainder of the trip. If memory serves me correct, I think the one week rental paid for itself in two days compared to Disney.

Been a few years since my in-laws traveled with us, so not sure what it is like today.

If you want a park scooter then the best way is to arrive at opening time to rent one and stay at the same park all day.

Now, if you are willing to rent a wheelchair at the second park if a scooter rental is not available when you park hop then that could work. Pushing a wheelchair for a few hours is a lot better than all day. As others have said you are put on a waiting list for a scooter. The drawback here is you have to go back to the rental place to get the available scooter and that could take a lot of time.

As others have stated getting a scooter rental from an offsite vendor is the only way to be totally safe on having a scooter at all times. If the person using the scooter can't navigate the transportation systems with getting on and off with the scooter then maybe someone else could do it for them. If you are using a car to travel to the parks and back to your resort then your vehicle needs to be big enough to fit the scooter. Also, make sure you get a scooter rental that can be taken apart for car travel. You do need to get the scooter in and out of your resort room, too. You need to make sure you have the battery fully charged everyday. Also, get an appropriate scooter for your needs like heavy duty which will have two batteries if required.
