I am not sure where to post this question..maybe the mods can move it if need be..in general its an all rounded question..

I'm running a half-marathon (21.1k) on Mothers Day. Right now I am in training..cross training and running..(up to 18k woohoo!) anyhoo..we are staying at POP at the end of the month going into the first week of May..I'm gonna have one week without having access to treadmills/anywhere to run..has anyone ever been in the situation of not knowing what to do? any suggestions? any places? I know I'll be doing enough walking but its not the same.

Help? :confused3

If it's any help - I was down at Disney in December 2011 for two weeks. Came home to celebrate Christmas and New Year, and flew back to Disney to run in Marathon Weekend. While my mileage during my POP stay was less than I'd normally run at home, the walking/pushing stroller all day can be excellent cross training ;)

Yes, running at POP is doable. The resort is smaller - but if you make a point of looping around the resort, by following the Hourglass Lake path, then sticking to the outside edge of the parking lots, you can do 5K loops. If the bridge to AoA is open, you could also be able to loop back and forth between the two resorts! On average I got in a minimum 5K daily, with most runs at 10K-15K.

My routine was either very early AM or late PM runs - never did I feel unsafe. If anything, I got to know the security and laundry haulers pretty well :rotfl2:

Thats great to know..I'll get up early in the morning and run if not evening..I'll have to distance the permiter when I get there. Since I get back and basically leave the week after I wanna be somewhat in shape. The bridge should be open by now seeing that the resort is due to officially open in May. Awesome!

I received my notice too the other day for the Marathon there in January :woohoo: would love to go :woohoo:

Thanks for your help!

By then you will be almost into your tapering period for your half. I would still find a time and place to run, but keep it down to 5Ks, maybe close to race pace or slightly slower. Remember walking Disney will do a number on your legs and energy. Are you following a specific training plan? What does it say for that week? If you choose to run, just do it in a loop in an area where you feel comfortable. To me, Disney property is pretty darned safe.

Pop over to the WISH area of the boards, it's the fitness area, and people might be able to give you more specifics on running near Pop.

Good luck on your half! I just did one yesterday!

I've been cutting back with distance over the past week..I slightly overran my marathon distance when I shouldn't have. I wanted to take it easy on my legs during the week. Today I did a cardio class at the gym and plan on doing another tomorrow with strenghtening for my quads and calves..no running. I will run a bit..maybe 5 k on Monday and mix it up with some strenghtening duing the week and more running but not much of a long distance. I will bring my runners to Disney with me and run early in the morning. I am following a modified version of Hal Higdon's training for 1/2 marathons..but yes with the heat and all the walking I will be doing in Florida I don't want to push myself with endurance.
