I've got a business trip in January that will have my family staying at the AKL. Are there any good running routes there or nearby if I wanted to knock out a few miles while I'm there?

We're spending Saturday in the parks, so I most likely won't run that day, but I'd like to run a little Sunday and Monday.

Others will help out here, but I haven't found a good place to run at AKL. I have run at CBR and the Boardwalk area would be good too.

How amazing would it be to get to run through a park (non-marathon event)? That would be a dream come true. Just to get in there with no other people except for runners/walkers and enjoy the morning sounds and scenery.

That should be the next Disney promotion! A Year of 1,000,000 miles! :yay::woohoo::banana::cool1::thumbsup2

Here's the run that Coach Charles helped me out with while I was at Disney World last August. It has some loops in it to get more milage, so you can adjust as needed.
This started at the Port Orleans French Quarter and went to Downtown Disney. So you may need a car to get to the beginning.

Good luck!

Almost 20 or so years ago when I was a lot younger, my dad would run in the morning when we were at Disney World. Apparently, he was able to get through one of the gates at Epcot and ran through the park for a little while before returning to the resort. He said it was pretty cool since no one was out at all except for the people working there.

Of course now security is a lot tighter and even if you are in the park before it opens (for special breakfast or tours), if you don't go to where you're supposed to a manager or another person will lead you back to where you are supposed to be.

To the original question: my favorite running is around the Epcot Resorts. There are a few variations you can do. You can run inside the resorts (around the lake) and up to MGM. When I wanted to add some miles I would run on the sidewalk around the front of the hotels. The only thing you have to watch out for is that they don't always have sidewalks through the parking lot so it can get harry depending on how many cars are coming in and out.

I know some people who like running at Fort Wilderness as well, but I have yet to go over there to explore. As for DAKL, I don't really know of any good paths since most of the paths around the savannas are all inside the hotel.

I'd love to go run the Boardwalk area, but how do you get there before parks and bus service starts? I'd have to do my running early in the morning (before my meetings). It doesn't seem like there's a road that isn't heavy traffic between AKL and the Boardwalk area. I wouldn't even mind running to it, but there's the problem with that.

Hey, so AKL isnt as nice as some resorts to run in (although man wouldn't a running trail around the savannah's be amazing?). You can basically run from Jambo to Kidani, and around there - also through the parking garage if its raining and you want to stay dry. I also found (if its bright enough out when you're running or you have a light) a service road that leads to a random parking lot. But it has some potholes/etc.

This is the ~ 3 mile loop I would run while down there.

You would be surprised... I was up to the gate of DHS last month and could have toured for a bit. I did notice a few extra security vehicles as I came back to the BWV.

$5-7 cab ride... I see folks running from AKL but the stretch after leaving the guardshack and east of Sherberth road is extremely busy and shoulderless.

Note if taking a cab to BW, take the ride to the Hess Station and start your run from there. Then when your run is complete, take a bus/cab back.

Otherwise, CrewMatt's route is a good alternative. I was not aware that there was access through that area. If you pass a cast member only sign just have a great dumb look on your face. I find that works well for the few times I have gotten off the public path.
