I'm not sure where this message should be posted but maybe here will work. My brother is a long distance runner and trains with distance runs of 5-10 miles a day, sometimes longer. Last time I went to WDW world with him we stayed Downtown Disney resort and he quickly realized that it was difficult to run long distances in this area due to roads and traffic. Are there any long distance runners out there who can suggest some areas near Downtown Disney or in the Disney World area where it is not to difficult to get in a long training run? Thanks.

Phrank40,

This is a very good question. I too, and a long distance runner and have had a tough time finding a great route to run. I don't think there is a long distance path that Disney can suggest over 4 miles. The thing to do is make up your own route or double/triple a smaller 4 mile route.

My favorite route is the one that starts between the Dolphin/Swan. These hotels can give you a map with the course on it. You make a big circle inside the Beach/Yacht Club resorts and the Boardwalk. Then you run along the canalway towards MGM. You make a right turn on the main road in fron of MGM and then another right turn on Epcot Resorts Boulevard. Finish at the Beach Club and I believe it is around 4 miles.

Although I cannot suggest a route, I would like to offer the following words to all those who run, jog, or walk...

Please, please PLEEEEEEASE.... stay out of the roadways!! Always make sure to stay on a sidewalk or designated pedestrian area... If there is no sidewalk, Please avoid that area.

Our resort roadways seem to be quiet, but I assure you, they have heavy traffic, and are high speed. Just because it's posted at 25, doesn't mean all cars will travel at that speed. And with all the corners, there are many blind spots.

My husband and I both run. There isn't anywhere to do a long distance run on property outside of the Y&BC, Swan & Dolphin and BW area. If you run on a road way you will be stopped by Disney security (my husband found this out the hard way!).

I just thought of the Ft. Wilderness area. Maybe there is something available there? There's always the treadmill!

(Running at Walt Disney World)

DH has run at WL (less than a month ago) and also at POR.
He runs when we stay at WDW, but not extensively, as we are on our feet most of the day anyway.
I know he has run loops and different directions multiple times just to get a longer run in.
