I looked at that and wondered the same thing. I'm not sure the rates will be better for APs, as the Disney prices are looking higher now and demand is sure to climb with the new attractions, DLH being done with renovations by 2012, and general price increases happening at the end of summer.
However since it's for January we usually see discounts for the general public and guests at that time.
Just a tip on the GET Travel prices, if you have a AAA Card, a lot of times, you can get a room cheaper than the Travle company. I know the hotels don't have the prices up yet, (I've been looking too), but I can tell you that at least with the DL 1/2 Labor Day weekend, looking on your own if you have the card is a cheaper. In the past 5 years that I've done the 1/2, I've just done it on my own. I do use them for the tickets, but seeing that you're an AP, you probably won't need any!

You normally don't get the medal it you don't finish. Remember though that the the clock for sweeping doesn't start until the last person crosses the start line.
If you're afraid of getting swept. The things I would do now is first work now on your walking speed. The easiest thing to do is during your walk every so often do a short burst of speed walking. It doesn't need to be long 5- 20 secongs.
Second, you might want to try doing a little bit of running. Jeff Galloway (who prepares RunDisney's training programs), has a conditioning program to get into his run/walk/run method.
I haven't done a Disney race yet (70 days until Disneyland Half). But I was able to cut my half marathon time from 3:28 in my first one to 3:07 in my second by switching from all walking to running 1 minute/ and walking 2 minutes. I further dropped to 2:52 in my 3rd half doing run 1 minute/walk 1 minute.
