Runners, New Disney Race

Disneyland® Resort becomes Never Land for a magical weekend especially for Fairies and Princesses. It starts with a Family 5K and Kids' Races and culminates with a 13.1-mile run that weaves you through Disneyland® Resort. Just follow the second star to the right!

It's open to both sexes and children there are different races not just 1. On the website it allows you to order some commerative items: pin, necklace, or Kids mouseears.

Men can enter, but aren't eligible for awards with the exception of the Open Co-Ed Team awards.

The runDisney site only has this to say about the medals:

Each finisher will receive an exclusive Tinker Bell-inspired Finisher Medal.

I think it's the Tinkerbell half-marathon, and the medal is Tink. It's for women only.

DD and I planning to register for it soon.

Hi I was just reading about this and I was just wondering, for those who have done the marathons before, is it exclusively running? Because I'm a power-walker, running is very hard since I injured my shins last winter, but this marathon sounds really fun, but I just don't know if they are only for runners or if they allow walkers??

DD and I planning to register for it soon.

It's NOT just for women. As wendylady36 noted, Men can enter, but aren't eligible for awards with the exception of the Open Co-Ed Team awards.

Walkers are allowed in the Disney races as long as you can maintain a 16min/mi pace throughout the race. I did the Princess 1/2 in WDW and did a walk/run interval throughout the race and there were plenty of power walkers as well.

Also, if this is like the Princess 1/2 men ARE allowed to run but it is women centered event. My DH did the Princess with me but there weren't very many men and he got a women's tech shirt in his goodie bag (which meant I got two shirts!). He still got a medal but was not eligible for any awards.

You have to be able to maintain a speed of 1 mile per 16 minutes. Plus while some people seriously race some do these as fun runs. While Characters wil line some of the course, some people stop to take pictures with them.

For this racing event in particular you can do the 1/2 marathon=13.1 miles or the family 5K

Wish it wasn’t so expensive to travel from Oregon with family. I would absolutely love to do the Family 5k with them ~ I LOVE that it’s at night!

Well I just paid off my portion of our family trip to WDW for this summer, so I'm going to start saving really really really hard, I am so dreaming of doing this race! I'm also going to start upping my workout too!!

I am with you! Personally, I think running is crazy, but my DH is a runner. maybe i can get trained up and suprise him. January is plenty of time!
