Runner dies after WDW Marathon

This is sad news. We read about it this morning.

My dh is a runner, and said that more people probably die after a race than we realize. Perhaps the runner had an undetected heart condition?? How sad for his family.......

Once I was in AK and saw the group of paramedics giving CPR to a man down. It did not look like any family members were present at the scene. All I could think about was that he could have been going to get the rest of the family fast passes. The thought that the rest of the family could be waiting at the Dinoride for daddy still gives me the shivers.

Definately sad...

and we've noticed that too - after the Chicago Marathons there seems to be a report of a runner that dies of heart attack

This was a half marathon, 13.1 miles, not a Marathon length. To me, that makes it all the more surprising and sad. Although I've heard of runners deaths after Marathons, I've never heard of people dying at half marathons. That's why I didn't mind DH running half marathons, but didn't want him doing marathons (I finally relented). Glad he's given up both!

One of my co-workers mentioned that yes, it's sad that he died, and I feel bad for his family, but on the bright side, he died doing something that he loves, and had probably spent a good portion of his life devoted to running.

DH is a runner, and ran the WDW Goofy Challenge this year. (Yesterday morning ran the half marathon; this morning he ran/walked the full marathon.)

He finished about a half hour before the runner who died. I asked if he heard or saw anything. He did not. And did not even know about it until I told him.

Very sad indeed. I am glad he died after doing something he enjoyed. But that does not make it easier on his family.

:(

He had two little ones :( It said in the article that his father died when he was young - might be a genetic condition. Doesn't help the the family, I know, but it could have happened any time, anywhere.

:( that is terrible. and at disney world too. it is supposed to be the happiest place on earth and this tradgety happens. everyone should be careful while running this marathon. my thoughts and prayers are with the family. :(
