I plan to run a time chipped 10k in a few weeks that I plan to submit proof of for the Tinkerbell half marathon. My question is what has your experience been when submitting proof of time for RunDisney events? Has anyone ever had your time chipped race results declined? Do you follow up to make sure they were able to verify the time?

Thanks for your help!

The two times I've emailed my proof of time, they've responded with an e-mail in the next day or two confirming they received my information and updated my records. It looked like a personal e-mail, not one of those canned "we have received your input" kind of responses. I have also included a link to the official results page for the races I ran.

Why do you think your time might be declined?

Thanks for your response. The emailed response does give me peace of mind. I've never submitted proof of time before so it's just a concern that for whatever reason my time not be validated.

Just remember that the race time you submit must be from a "certified" race. Just because a race has bibs with timing chips does not mean that the course is certified accurate for the distance. If the race you are running is certified, it should say so somewhere on the registration page, website home page, etc. If it doesn't, you might want to email the race director and ask.

I ran a local 10K last month for charity (and fun), not for Disney race purposes, that was chip timed but not certified. So what I'm talking about is not theoretical.

Ooh I didn't think about the certified portion. Thank you! I'm hoping it will be as its a large scale 5,10,1/2 but you never know.

That's interesting - although they state they want results from a "certified race" they never explicitly state that what they mean is a USATF-certified course. As I understand it, races aren't certified, courses are. Assuming that's their intent, it would be nice if they used the precise terminology to eliminate confusion.

I personally would not worry about certified or not. The largest thing is to run a chipped race where results are electronic. Chances are that the course is or was at one time certified.

Note that even if a course is certified, one mistake by the folks setting up the race in the morning and the race is no longer on a certified course. It could be as simple as allowing runners to use the incorrect lane of a road.

I think the reason for them using that wording is so people don't try and just submit virtual races or times from runkeeper, garmin etc.

Just wanted to note that I ran an official local 10k race that was started "on the gun", or not chipped.

My submission was accepted. No issues.
I received a personal email from Run Disney and then my Active registration was updated with the projected 1/2 completion time.

I'll also mention that there are local races here that are not chip timed, but are USATF certified (which is a big deal around here because Peachtree requires it for corral placement and they are very serious about it). It's the course that's certified, not the timing company.
