Rumor - Virgin Mega Store To be Replaced by Exhibition Of Princess Diana's Gowns

If you loved Princess Diana's style and glamour, you'll love this. A collection of the late princess's dresses will be on display in the spot that once held the Virgin Mega Store at Downtown Disney West Side. The display will be on the first floor. Rumor has it that a contract was signed this past week between Disney and Maureen Rorech Dunkel, the lady who bought 14 of Princess Diana's gowns a few weeks before the princess died in a car wreck in August 1997. Dunkel created The People's Princess Charitable Foundation after the crash. The shoes of Imelda Marcos will be featured on the second level.

They're about 10 weeks too late with this April Fool!

Can't think of anything worse at Disneyworld.

What's this going to be, a kind of museum of 14 dresses? Can't see how that will make any profit. :S Very strange.

There's a post about this over on the main trip board - and it seems our American friends are just as confused as we are as to why this exhibition is going to DTD? As I mentioned over there, I'm sure the dresses would be much more appreciated on show over here in London, after all, the Princess was British! Can't quite understand why anyone who was heading to Disney would want to look at dresses and shoes? Each to their own though...:confused3

yet another completely insane, and completely un-disney like decision for DTD. Kevin Lansberry seems determind to remove the disney from DTD.

I suppose it's more attractive than an empty building - but not something I'd go to see.

At a guess, the thinking may be that they will attract visitors (footfall) to the exhibition who wouldn't normally go to DTD and whilst there will dine and shop and be parted from their $$$$

I think Downtown Disney westside needs a big makeover with the shops, and that Diana thing is well weird!! lol

i would go
Paulh

All depends what else is there and how much it is. 14 dresses and a pile of Imeldas shoes then probably no, packaged with other memorabilia and only a few $'s then yes I would but no doubt it will be more than I am willing to pay.

maybe, but there will surely need to be some capital investment on refurbing the building first, and then display cases, lighting etc. Plus additional advertising if its to get people who wouldnt normally visit DTD.

:confused3

The sums depend on how long the "attraction" is going to be there I suppose, but I cant really see it adding up.

They had this collection of Dianas Gowns at RPR last year for a few weeks.

what a waste - they must just be desperate to fill the space!!!!

why not make it into a Disney museum?

Just going off topic a bit here we have just returned from Orlando this week and there is a rumor going around that NASA Space Centre Kennedy is going to be closed down within the next year and everything moving to Houston ??, The Ticket person at Walmart told us then a few americans in our hotel were talking about it also at breakfast so i chipped in then said Obama wants the budget cut back on Space and Kennedy will go asap ????????? So dont know if this is true or just a rumor ....

Well....I would rather have the empty store filled but I won't be visiting this! I'm not a big fan to the West Side of DTD I much prefer the marketplace area.
